Just pulled my plug to check it and it looks like I need to go up in jet size. I thought I would be running rich but the plug is a smoke gray. I'm at a 55 pilot and 158 main.

ugh, cut the threads yo. we can't tell you if it's properly jetted like that.

I'll cut the threads but I thought dark gray was a little on the lean side. It wasn't really a plug chop. Just mellow ridding.

you can't tell with riding. cuz if ur pilot is rich it will ruin the reading for the main. do a proper plug chop then come back

Kinda flat in the low RPM's but rips in the upper. I'll do a real plug chop before I buy new jets to make sure what way to go in size.

just keep putting bigger jets in till it runs like sh*t then back it down til it rips.
seriously though how come you didnt do a plugchop yet???? you tell wayy too many people to do that .

I just do it by the seat of the pants feel....I can feel when it's boggy, and I can feel when it rips. Then I just know that when it gets colder I need larger jets, so I jsut change them seasonally. I also have a midway for like spring/fall and in the summer when my throttle response goes down and it's a little boggy I just pop a smaller main in and ta-da, it rips.

I just change jets until it feels good to me. I never check the plug unless it is running real crapy. A little lean isant going to hurt it as long as it runs good! "LEAN IS MEAN!"

thats what my plug looks like after hard riding, sorry to threadjack but am i too rich if it looks just like that after riding the piss out of it? right now i have a 145 main, and a 42 pilot, i think my 145 main might be too rich, maybe a 142?

This method is best for 99.9% of you. If it's not farting, snorting, belching, or fouling plugs it's not to rich. Do any of you realize that the incoming fuel charge is the only thing that cools the piston? It's a trade off, a little more power now or longer engine life. Plugs are cheaper than pistons. But I also run 28:1 , oil is cheap too. Lean is fine if you drag race , but when you ride for hours rich will save wear.

As you go from rich to "perfect", power increases as do temperatures. As you go from "perfect" to lean power doesn't drop off as fast as it rose, however, temperatures skyrocket.

JMHO, your results may, and will vary. As will the hole in your piston :D:o
