Just pulled my plug to check it and it looks like I need to go up in jet size. I thought I would be running rich but the plug is a smoke gray. I'm at a 55 pilot and 158 main.
I just do it by the seat of the pants feel....I can feel when it's boggy, and I can feel when it rips. Then I just know that when it gets colder I need larger jets, so I jsut change them seasonally. I also have a midway for like spring/fall and in the summer when my throttle response goes down and it's a little boggy I just pop a smaller main in and ta-da, it rips.[/QUO
This method is best for 99.9% of you. If it's not farting, snorting, belching, or fouling plugs it's not to rich. Do any of you realize that the incoming fuel charge is the only thing that cools the piston? It's a trade off, a little more power now or longer engine life. Plugs are cheaper than pistons. But I also run 28:1 , oil is cheap too. Lean is fine if you drag race , but when you ride for hours rich will save wear.
As you go from rich to "perfect", power increases as do temperatures. As you go from "perfect" to lean power doesn't drop off as fast as it rose, however, temperatures skyrocket.
JMHO, your results may, and will vary. As will the hole in your piston![]()
