My first Blaster MX build!

you got any new pics

No I just ordered the filter I am going to be using on the airbox though. After much research I had to change my initial design. I was going to use a flat filter, but I found that the added surface area of a conical filter was advantageous. The material used in the production of this airbox give us many different options previously not available. The problem I had with using a readily available aftermarket airbox was they are all so similar, and it looks like I can improve upon them. The Project Blaster, and SMS airboxes both use 4" (250R) air filters. CFM is even worse, and uses a 2.5" filter. The SMS airboxes even use a 250R rubber boot. I feel my design will be superior to all previous designs. It will eliminate the cut and welded aluminum sections in the intake tube as well. I am not a fluid dynamics expert or anything, but it should flow more air thus making more power. It will utilize a 5" K&N filter, and a smother larger diameter tube, more like a chamber, between the filter, and carb. I should have all this done mid week next week. Then I will be able to get some completed pics. Even if the airbox makes no more power than previous designs, at least I will have a trick airbox. I doubt it will loose any power though.

Yeah, I could of bought several, but I passed on all of them so I could develop this idea. It is coming out quite well.

any updates on the airbox yet????

Waiting on USPS to bring the filter so I can finish it. Just to give you guys a little bit of insight as to what is going on here. This is kinda the what I am going for. I have a sheet of carbon fiber, and I have just enough to finish this box. Obviously the design will be different, the material will be the same though.

damn man thats nice as f*ck!! how much were them nerfs? i REALLY like them

Thanks! They are AC Racing Blacklines for the KLX or Z400. I custom made mounts to put them on the Blaster frame. Including welding the front mounts to the frame. They go for about $300 or so new. I got mine on ebay for $150, they were blems, but they work fine for my application after a little tweaking. I also had to mod my kickstarter, because I moved my peg location down and back 1.5".

Thanks guys. Your kind words mean allot. It makes me feel better about all the cash I've spent on it. Cross your fingers so that the filter arrives tomorrow so I can get the airbox done by the weekend.

did it come in yet

Yeah it is really big too. I'll have to take a pic of it for you guys. It is huge. I am at the shop now. I am about to lay up another section. I have the whole box area done. I made the filter flange yesterday, and I am working on the forward section now. The part between the carb, and the filter. Not only do I think it will make more power than any other setup with a blaster motor. I also think it will be just what the doctor ordered when I get frame number 2 done with the YZ motor. I talked to Shawn, and when we dyno my airbox in we are going to try a reg SMS one too, and see which makes more power.

I wanna see this box!!!!

Give me a few days. It isn't much to look at yet. It is freakin huge though. It is going to have a 3" inlet at the carb, and I am going to use a 3" to 2.5" silicone adaptor at the carb to fit my 35mm airstiker. So it will be big enough to support an even larger carb. There are absolutely no bottlenecks. It will be the most free flowing setup I've ever seen.

Also I got knocked for knocking the CFM design in another thread awhile back. Here is why. The CFM airbox uses a 2.5" filter, and has sharp bends in the intake tube. Mine will have no sharp bends at all. All smoth fluid transitions. I actually have a 2.5" filter I had mounted to my carb. I took some pics of the two side by side. I think the pics will show the obvious flow advantage. My carb was jetted for a PB airbox, and with the 2.5" filter I had to go down 6 sizes on my main jet to get it to run. The 2.5" filter choked it that bad. Any here are the pics of the different filters. A PB airbox uses a 4" 250R filter which is a inch smaller than my big 5" I am using.
