I would rather have the works, properly set up they are a lot better shock then people gived them credit for. unless all you doing is seriously launching, suspension needs to have up AND down travel to work at its best. when sitting on my bike it has 6 1/2 inches of sag. works are simple to valve to. a quad wants VERY little front rebound dampening, and compression is handles buy bypass's controled by a check ball and little spring, get some springs from works (REally cheap) and experiment. it's probably gone up a little, but I used to buy complete piston assemblies prevaled for $20 apiece and after I preran the course, I would take the shocks apart in the back of the boxvan and change the valving for either a smooter fast course or a rougher slower course. I could completely change the valving in both front shocks in under 15 minutes. I even had slide in spacers (internal) that I could use by removing the small spinge and putting the spacer under the piston to lower the bike for flat track.
