My 240 with stroker build

Awsome, we have a similar tradition but its using a 4x4 truck. This year iv been wanting to use my utility quad to pull my daughter but only snow dustings this year.

Your build progress sounds great so far. Did u get the bearings from yamaha dealer? Do all even trans bearings? For me that seamed the most expensive, few hundred in bearings from yamaha, next build im going to try getting all bearings else where

I replaced all but 2 of the bearings. I didn't replace the bearings that sit up against the case that you can't push out from the other side because I didn't have a way to get them out but they were still good bearings so I didn't bother with those 2. I also didn't order them from the dealer because I didn't want to spend hundreds on them. Ken suggests any company that sells Koyo bearings. My crank bearings were Koyo. The rest I'm not sure what they are.

Another thing I would like to ask you guys. Do I need a beefed up clutch, just stiffer springs, or is the stock clutch enough to hold up to the power I'll be getting out of a 240 with +3 build?

I got my motor shipped today and I thought I'd pass on some information that I struggled to find online when trying to figure out how to ship it.

I used a 20 gallon tote that measured about 25x17x16 inches and the width was the only part that was a close fit. I had plenty of room in length and height. To fill in the space and cushion the motor I stuffed all 6 sides with cardboard. It took me 2 large and one extra tall boxes of cardboard cut up to fill all the gap and ensure a tight fit. I simply used duct tape to wrap the whole way around so the lid was secure. I know CT racing's website says you can drill holes on the sides and lid and zip tie it shut but I wanted to reuse the tote so I didn't want to drill the holes.

My method worked pretty good I think and if anyone was wondering the whole package with motor and stuffing and tote was 59 pounds. With those dimensions and weight FedEx ground only charged me $55 for going from bottom tip of Indiana to KOR and that's with $1000 insurance. FedEx ground is also a 2 business day shipment.

For anyone looking to ship a motor this was a good way to go. Also people say you can ship in a cooler but if you go my route then you might be able to use an even smaller tote as long as there isn't any levers hanging off the sides on the motor (mine was just bare motor assembled) and you don't go any smaller on the width. You can go smaller on height and length though.

I hope this helps anyone looking at how to ship a blaster motor.

I just shipped mine this past Friday to KOR, in a cooler with bubble wrap all inside, lid taped shut and then the cooler wrapped in cardboard box, payed no extra than the 100 covered by UPS, "takin my chances"..... no signature confirmation..... $46, my whole package weighed 68 lbs, which I think is a lie, weighed 63 on another scale, but that's none of my business I guess.... shipped out of Jacksonville Nc to Connecticut..I believe entire package was 18x18x20

isnt insurance $1 per 100? i would have put a couple hundred extra on it

Yea I did at first, but took it off after I realized it was another 10 bucks, trying to save every penny, lord knows Im going to need it when my motor is complete...

IMO tusk HD will do just fine. I run one in my motor. Also a lot of people will tell you that a 38mm carb is to big. Well I run one with tons of bottom end. just something to consider. Ken is a great dude and you will be more than happy with your build.

Thanks for the input. I'm not sure what clutch I'm going with yet. I guess it all depends on how much money I end up spending. I might has to start saving a little by the end of the build. The reason I'm going with a 35mm air striker is because that is what Ken suggested. I trust that he could point me in the right direction since he's the one building the motor. Plus I'm sure he's done more builds like mine then I can count on 2 hands lol

Yeah he has done a lot of builds. He was getting ready to do some experimenting with a 38mm carb before he sold his blaster. I'm not trying to convince you, just saying don't rule it out. Next time I go up to Ken's house I will have me blaster towing behind me so he can rip it with the 38 lol. As for the clutch, I don't mind putting money into my bike. My motor makes good power and the tusk HD has not slipped or failed yet. Again just some things to consider.

Here is how I bought my blasters. This one had the motor still on it because of a failed attempt to rebuild it, I had to take it out and do a full rebuild. Thought I'd post a pic while Ken is building my motor. I still need to swap the wiring harness over to the original 5 wire harness. They had the 99 blaster harness on it because the we're using the 99 blasters bottom end. The 04 bottom end is what I'll be running on it. It's also just got all the parts from both blaster stored with it because I'll be using the best of both blasters and putting it on the 04 frame shown.
