Hey guys so I have decided i want to go the ASR a arms with long travel shocks route. im looking at either yfz or trx shocks and was just looking for someone who has this setup to tell me what they think, I have seen posts about this setup but never a review after the fact. I have heard from some people the yfz shocks are to stiff and haven't heard a whole lot about the trx shocks. also would love to see some pictures of this setup if anyone has some.

here's my take on this, from experience (I've had banshee, LT triple rate works, works dual rates, and currently elka's)

the lure of "LT" suspension looks good because of these stock shocks going for around $100-150

the problem with any stock shock, YFZ. TRX, or XYZ :), they are all single rate springs,
sprung for the heaviest rider the bike is rated for, usually in the 300lb. range.
all the compression/rebound adjustments in the world will not overcome the fact the shock is/may be sprung for a rider 100-150lbs heavier than you.
good suspension starts with a spring(s) rate matched to your weight and the type of riding intended.

a standard travel, double or triple rate, works, peps or elka shock setup specifically for you, will outperform a long travel setup with some stock, generically sprung shock.
my stock length Elka's fr and rr, rated for around my weight, have yet to bottom out on even the biggest jumps, so I never saw the need to go to any longer travel.

if you're heart is set on "LT", you'd be better off to watch for used aftermarket shocks from a YFZ or TRX, w/ double or triple rate springs, rated for around your weight, over any stock LT shock that your weight may not even be able to compress fully to actuate the longer travel of "LT"
by the time you spend $ to have stock shocks resprung for your weight, you could have just had aftermarket shocks to begin with.

definitely choose your shock/length before you have ASR build arms for them.

I agree fully with Awk. I have YFZ shocks, and although I dont have any problems with them (Apart from wearing out my balljoints) I am happy with them and they do not really limited me in my riding. I do however think there is room for improvement. If I were to get a set of Elkas etc with multiple rate springs setup for me, I dont think Id know what hit me (or what didnt) One day I will look into it but that will require some serious sheets! Anyting is a good upgrade over the blaster shocks, it all boils down to how much tin you willing to dish out on them. With shocks, more expensive is always better....

My lad runs YFZ Dual rate Works and is happy with them.

If money was available I am sure he would love to upgrade to PEP or Elka, but for what you pay for the works it is worth it.
