here is a picture of my piston and head after my bottom rod bearing started coming apart. you guys think I can clean up the head and top of the piston or do I need to replace them. as you can see hopefuly there are'nt any scores in the sides of the pison the rings are fine and the bore is clean. am I just cheaping out or does everyone think it will be alright after removing the chunks of steel from both and smoothing it out as good as possible

you can see how much thinner the left thrust washer is compared to the right

one more quesion are the bearings on a the bottom of the rod supposed to be straight or on an angle?

they are supposed to be straight in there......those bearings are shot bro, time to put in a a +3 stroker crank

yeah i would do a full rebuild bud. that thing is rusty on the inside. talk to ken oconner he'll hook you up with whatever you need. and he wont fill you full of sh*t just to make a buck.the link is in my sig

My vote is a new piston. I have never tried to "clean" one off and use it. Maybe others have?

rusty!? don't know what you are lookin at man. the only thing that is rust colored is a bit of the head gasket showing. this motor was just completely cleaned and assembled by ME so I know it is clean. I know the crank is shot, a vitos 3mil sould be here tomorrow. my only question is really if I can clean the head and piston up since the cylinder is clean and the sides of the piston are clean. Can't afford a piston and new head right now. i put my truck in a guard rail a few weeks ago so I'm a bit short on cash. guess I need to change that W on the oil pump cover to a 3MMV for my new crank. unfortunately that weisco crank only has about 7 hrs on it. water doesn't lube that bottom rod bearing too well. thats why it came apart. thought the crank was ok so i just rebuilt the top

3 or 4 mm stroker, the head cut for the stroke will take care of the damage and a new piston

or you can cheap out, the raised divots on the head become localized hot spots, the 82 octane you run in it then detonates and you trash the new motor...dont forget new main bearings and seals

I'm broke but I can always afford 93 smart ass. def new bearings and seals. I want to get a rechambered head, who will do one of mine for a decent price? what is that price. I do agressive trail riding.

The piston is trashed and should be mounted to the top of a four speed transmission. The rod will also need to be replaced or a new crank purchesed The head can be repaired by a redesign or a +4 / +3 mod as my very wise friend stated.
