Leaking fuel valve (petcock)...

With riding season upon us here in SoCal, I got my Blaster out of the garage yesterday after it had been sitting since early Spring of this year. I filled up the tank with some fresh pre-mix and the moment I turned the fuel valve on, a slow leak developed that appears to be coming from the valve itself.

Apparently my options are to (1) buy a whole new valve or (2) buy a valve rebuild kit. I'm guessing that the o-ring in the valve has failed and I'm wondering if there's a third and more simple option of just finding a new o-ring, rather than buying the rebuild kit.

Anyone replace just the o-ring with success? If so, where'd you get your o-ring?

I've got a bunch of o-rings in the garage and I'm sure I can find a close match.....but I'm curious what others have done. Thanks.

easiest option is buy a good used one

sure...if there was a used one near me for cheap. but if I'm going to have one shipped to me I might as well get a new one as I don't mind paying the extra for the peace of mind.

Found some good info here:

For some reason I feel like I've changed out the petcock once before, but I can't exacly remember if it was on me blastee.....too much CA medicine I suppose.

I'll try a home remedy, but I think I'll just spring for a new on. Here's one for $20 delivered:

Yamaha Timberwolf 92-00 Fuel Petcock Gas Tank Switch: eBay Motors (item 380280488577 end time Nov-17-10 20:29:36 PST)

It's not advertised for a blaster, but I cross checked the p/n and found this petcock is used for many Yamaha models.

Very shiny. Looks like it will fit (so will a banshee petcock). The only question is what size is the hose connection. Banshees at least, are a bit larger (5/16 vs 1/4). Can't tell how big that one is.

Peakmoto is a good supplier tho. They should be willing to measure it or find the right one for you.

I took the petcock apart, cleaned it and then reassebled. Now it's not leaking anymore. I:I

Guess I'll just keep an eye on it for now and stock a rebuild kit just in case it craps out down the trail.

Boom shaka-laka....out.
