So Cal
I have my project Blaster put together. Performed a leak down test and noticed a significant leak at the bottom of my reed cage. (see pic). I re-torqued the bolts but still leaking. I sprayed the paper gasket with Permatex copper gasket maker prior to install. Any thoughts?

why do i see gasket here (yellow)
but not here (red) ???

shoulda got the copper permatex in the tube, so you could lay it on slightly thicker than the spray gets in one coat, i never have a problem

did you use a 2 gaskets, one in front of the reeds, and one between the reeds and intake ???
i believe, of i remember stock correctly, the intake has a built in gasket, and doesn't require a paper one ???

Okay, I'm an idiot. When I saw your comment about the gasket sticking out I realized that I forgot the reed cage and bolted the intake directly to the head. (LOL) Back to the drawing board. I hope I can save the gasket. Whew, I hope that solves the leak!

i thought i saw the reeds missing, but figured my old eyes were decieving me

that somna-biotch woulda never started, minus reeds, LOL

Well, unfortuneately still leaking air. I think it might be coming from where the reed basket and the air intake meet as oppossed to where the reed and the head join. The back of the air intake piece appears to have a black discoloration (see pic). I'm wondering if the previous owner might have been usuing some black RTV or some other kind of sealant between the air intake and the reed basket. It's discolored but it didn't appear to have any sealant reminants when I disassembled it. ??? Is there a gasket that I'm missing between the two? Are there two gaskets? Should I be using some type of sealant? I didn't get another gasket in my top end kit. It also appears from the way its manufactured with the built-in grooves that it is made to fit dry.

I thought the reed/intake cage was kinda prone to leaks right there because that's where the case halves come together? My own fix was the same as Awk mentioned. I used a touch extra sealant right there to make up for the uneven spot.

Thanks, I give it a try with some sealant and keep my fingers crossed.

the black discoloration you see is the remnants of the rubber used to seal around the metal base, all stock intakes have that
and the rubber ribs are supposed to be the gasket, but some sealant will help if it's leaking there,
i tried a gasket there once, on a stock intake, and it leaked worse than without it
