I've done that and it works well, I like to wrap an old shop rag around it then stick it in between the two gears.

i have a manual so i can check the overhaul section and see about the seals and greasing them. i appreciate everyones advise, now i feel a lil more confident about installing the seals. will be ordering parts tomorrow. i will let you all know how it goes. thanks peeps
my neighbor is goin to let me use his lil shed so i can take it apart and check for leaks. since i am takin it apart are there anymore seals i should just go ahead and replace?
i looked in my service manual and the oil seals require light weight soap base lithium grease. only thing i could find was white lithium grease. would this work? parts guy said thats what he used on seals or oil seals
ok i have takin my motor apart and the performed a leak down test again and noticed iot didnt look like it was leaking by the seal but inbetween the crank rod and the metal that surrounds the crank rod. i took a pic but its not that good. hopefuly someone knows what im talkin about.
i don't know man. i have never seen a leak there. maybe one of the more expirienced guys has delt with that before
damn i was hoping maybe it was the oil seal but that doesnt look like the oild seal leaking to me, although the oil seals do look bubbly and like the engine may have over heated before.
i guess i was over thinking it but i experimented on my old junk blaster motor and that piece of metal i guess is like a bushin and it come out before the seal does.
i feel like i replaced the seal for no reason. still leaks between the crank rod and collar. any suggestions?
start a new post on that in the ask a pro section or offtopic to try and get more attention. make sure you give all the details up to this point. sorry i don't have an answer for you. unless the collar is worn. did you pull it and look at it?
yes i did look but it didnt look worn. i was wandering if it may be that my crank is just worn down. i dunno
so is it possible that it was overheated before and the seal melted and stuck to this collar and instead of the collar spinning inside the seal the crank was spinning inside the collar and wore it down? im sure it would not exactly look worn as they are machined surfaces already. the only suggestion i would think of is to take some yamalube or aviation sealant or whatever you use to seal your case together and put some between the collar and crank to seal it and with your new oil seal it will spin freely between the collar and seal like its supposed to. i would try that first but if this doesnt work the next cheapest thing to replace would be the collar and if it still leaks then the crank itself. good luck and let us know what you figure out.
i think that is what happin. i was lookin at my manual and is has very lil tolerance fore ware. my buddy has a blaster in pices and the topend is off the motor and said he would 30 sack for the motor. hope it will work for me.
all those bottom ends are the same if it is in good working order you shouldnt' have any troubles with it. 30 sack LOL
yeah his is also newer then mine and has been sitting for a long time. ima put a topend on it and and leak down test it and hope the seals and collar is gravy. yep thats it. good deal a? lol
