Kick start not catching

ok so i traded an old truck for a blaster and the kick start wont catch and doesnt engage the engine. so where should i start with this. i am currently working on a tors conversion kit cause ive had nothing but problems. quad starts when being push started but other than that nothin. any help/tips on this would be much appreciated.

the spring probably came off and its not pushing the gear over when you kick it

take off the right side clutch cover and have a looksie

its weird cause it will catch sometimes and others it wont

will do. having problems getting the cover off cause i cant get the actual kicker off and the brake lever/peg off the right side
