Just gotta complain...

Ok so as some of you seen in my rebuild thread I finally got the blasty running. Well I was able to finally ride the damn thing after the 1st 2 steps in the break in process of idleing. Well I didnt have any clutch. Went straight to the handle with no pressure. Did some research and WTF...I tore the clutch basket apart and I didnt have the 3/16 ball in the shaft. So good. I got that fixed and was getting ready to put the clutch back together to take it for a spin finally and SNAP! One of the 5 bolts that holds the springs in broke. So now I gotta try to get that out and get 5 new bolts. I should of known it was gonna break since it was torqued...then I torqued them again when I rebuilt the motor.............Im so damn frstrated...why the hell did Yamaha have to put that damn ball in there? Do all clutches have that ball? Hopefully tomorrow ill be able to get it back together...

yes, they all have it, that ball is a bearing so that the rod next to the clutch pull lever doesn't spin and wear a hole in the lever. those bolts are a biotch, i had 2 break when i was torquing them down

guess im gonna head out to my cycle shop and hopefully they have them in stock and just get 5 new ones...guess they only be torqued so many times.

I'm thinking the same thing about my damm head studs... can possibly only be torqued so many times pita lol why couldn't they just use grade 8 or higher bolts for some of these things...

i would say they dont use stronger bolts so that they break rather then something different and potentialy more expensive breaking.

they gotta put some thing cheap in them so they can keep maken the $$ from us just be thank full its not a cheap china bike then the whole bike would be broke.

since yur talkin bout that little ball I'll mention how important your clutch lever adjustment is. Lotsa folks just check that it disengages so you can shift but you want to be sure there is no load on the engine clutch lever when the hand lever is released. You don't want a constant load on that ball/shaft or they will melt, weld and generally destroy themselves. IMHO

i've never had problems a problem with stud stripping, but have pulled the threads out of the aluminum jug
