Just bought a blaster off of Craigslist for $250 it starts right up but seems to idle VERY high...it ran out of gas and im not sure on how and what too do with the oill and gas sitiuation..it doesnt have the Oil injector system...ive read up some on that i just dont know if i can just go to walmart and buy 2 stroke oil and mix it with my gas or do i have to buy certain 2 stroke oil? ive looked some on here but i couldnt find that info? im new to the whole 2 stroke thing and im pretty lost...i havnt had the chance to even drive the Blaster yet because the tire was off the rim but i bought new rims and tires today! and i was afraid to put it into gear with it reving so high? maybe because it was cold start idk im not very good with motors and stuff...any help would be very much appreciated i plan on cleaning it up and the air filter tomarrow but i wanna put gas in it and ride it..let me know please..heres a picture of my Blaster!

For the gas go and get some 2 stroke mixing oil i use lucas, klotz and lots more anything but that crap you buy for weedeaters that looks like engine oil. Get a mixing cup and mix it 32:1. For the filter clean and oil it before you ride. The high idle could just be the adjustment there is a big aluminum box on top of the carb take the seat off and you should see a big flat head screw on top adjust that out to lower the idle.

Yeah i didnt really know about that 2 cycle crap for weedeaters lol...can i buy the 2 stroke oil good brands at walmart or autozone? because no 4wheeler dealers will be open a Sunday..Thanks for all the tips man! i really appreciate it! ill try all of those things!...heres a picture of the wheels i just bought for it today and put on! looks much better...

Looks really good. try to get any name brand you can oreily's has the lucas stuff its really good.

i've used the castrol 2 stroke from autozone, in a pinch, and only in my sons bike
mine only get maxima super m
all mixed 32:1 ratio....4 ounces per gallon of fuel

and even as excited as you are, i would not go riding tomorrow until further preventive maintenence is done, or you'll likely be on here asking what piston is best

i'd suggest a leakdown test for the high idle, could be an airleak somewhere
disassemble and clean the carb, write down the jet numbers and needle clip positon while in there, < relay that info to us
do a compression test, change the spark plug to a new b8es, and as mentioned above, clean or replace the airfilter, and oil it with foam filter oil

Yes it might be a air leak..the intake hose is not all the way on the carb i did notice..ive only started it twice due to me not being able to ride it because of the tire..but tomarrow before anything im gonna go and buy some Lucas 2 cycle oil,air filter cleaner and oil,and a new plug...then im gonna do all the little things and see what happens from there..Thank you all and i will stay posted! btw glad to be here!!

put the intake hose on all the way also. It will save you time in the long run bro trust me i learned the hard way many times.

From what I've read around here, I'd suggest not running your Blaster until you're positive you have no airleaks... Definitely put the air boot on all the way. It could be the reason for your high idle.

yep.....high idle means air leak and air leak means burned up piston.

Follow Awk's advice above and save yourself a rebuild. 2-strokes are super easy to own and maintain, you just gotta spend some time reading this forum for knowledge.

You're learning lesson #1 with this thread.....which is: don't burn up your top-end.

There are several threads in the DIY section of this forum that explain how to disable your oil-injection system. Once disabled, then you can pre-mix your fuel & 2-stroke oil to 32:1.

Keep at it and lets us know what you find :)

Check the TORS on top of the carb. The threads tend to strip if not installed correctly. Make sure it's not just sitting lose on top of the carb. The two most important this to help keep your motor running a long time is making sure you have no air leaks and your running the correct jets. Don't rush to ride because you could end up with alot more down time. We are here to help you be a happy Blaster owner.

Okay today i have found a few things upon further inspection..i bought a new NGK b8es plug..and when i went to change those out the plug that was in wasnt even tightened all the way down..took it out replaced it and made sure it was tight...drained all the remaining gas out of the tank, cleaned the air filter and box,put the intake hose back on the carb, bought lucas 2 stroke oil and mixed it with my gas as advised...put some in and it wont start! cranked and cranked and nothing i pulled the intake hose off and gave it a couple kicks and it started to fire for a sec..then nothing...the TORS on the top of the carb wasnt tight either so i hand tightened it up...should i just save me time and money and take the carb off and take it apart and just clean it real good? it seems thats the issue is the carb..the guy i bought it from told me it sat for 6 Months...but idk how true that is..Another question is the choke supose to pull out and stay until you push it back in? because i pull it out and it goes right back in by itself?...Heres a picture of my Carb...Thanks for all the info btw you all rock! :)

Sat for 6 months equals hummed up carb
Complety disassemble and clean

Loose if can suck air too
I'd suggest a compression test too
And as always....leakdown test

Definately time to clean the carb. The choke is supposed to stay out when pulled, but one that won't stay out is just worn-out; I'd replace it eventaully, but its more of a hassle than a danger the way it is.

HOWEVER, GET RID OF THAT CRACKED FUEL LINE IMMEDIATELY! Install some fresh line. You're just asking for a fire running what's on there now. I've seen it a couple times and I know you don't want your new Blaster going up in flames.

all good advice so far. Also check the air screw. Turn it all the way in and back it out about 1.25-1.75 turns and see if it idles better. The air leak is always something to watch for. If you go ride before testing it, you better have a tow vehicle riding with you. Good luck, enjoy this forum there is a lot of excellent info and how to's on blasters here and plenty of guys willing to share the info too.
