Just bought a 2005 for $400 Can you help me?

1st off Hello everyone. I went to Pismo Beach last week to ride the rent a quads, and fell in love with the 250 cc's SO much I found a guy in town that had a used one sitting in his yard. I asked if he wanted to sell it, originally he wanted $900 but said he'd take $500 I gave him $400. It runs fine just a little banged up. I wonder if you guys can help me piece some missing parts together. Thank YOu Here are the pics I can also make a video so you guys may be able to tell me what I need. Thank YOu BTW I live in Central Cali. Its a 2005. Where is the best place to get the parts ( front fenders, front light/rear light, the handle bar seams to be higher on one side also.

WELCOME !!!

Now that's a diamond in the rough :o

Until you meet requirements to post wanted ext you will have to PM to reply to sale adds. Many of the parts can be got on Ebay or maybe CL.

DO NOT try to straighten the bars, that will weaken them causing breakage.

From the looks of it, the oil injection has been deleted which means you MUST mix oil with the gas !!!

Welcome to the forum. Thats a very neglected quad. Check the air cleaner and the oil in the clutch/transmission. I am sure they have not been taken care of either. Got a good blaster for 400.

a lot of stuff you need to do go over..... i would first compression check it then leak down test it, after that if that all checks out clean the carb oil/replace that chain clean the airfilter, give the quad a nice bath? ;0 then you need to inspect the quad and see what parts you need to get!

I got a set of fat bars no clamps they are blue pazzaz if ur interested just send me a pm of how much ur wanting to spend, and a phone number so I can text u pics or email either one, also pull the carb out and rebuild it blow the jets out and change gaskets and check float height, put a new intake manifold on there just to be safe, probably dry rotted.

Thank You. Ok little info on it. The guy showed me how to start it, the 1st kick it fired right up with no problem that was surprising. Yes he did tell me that he took off the oil mixer because he said he didn't trust them. (I have no idea if that was needed) I downloaded the free manual you guys have on this websight will that show me how to tear down the engine? Why are the bars like that? Possible roll over in the past? It looks like the black support bar between the handle bars is higher on one side. Also he said it doesn't use a battery?! But it has the wire up for lights in the front (scratches head). How do I clean the chain? WD40?..Dremel tool? I have road the honda 250cc which I believe is a 4 stroke, he says this thing being a 2 stroke is way faster? I will do all of the test, Im fairly new to these engines but I have worked on car engines before. I will custom paint it also, in a month or 2 after everything is sound. On the exterior I noticed the 2 front fenders are gone, as well as the front light. DO these things also have brake light?...Also when the seller started it for me he said I had to keep feathering the throttle to keep it from cutting out because it had really ooold gas in it and needed fresh gas to keep it idling without cutting off.
The previous owner is an older school bus driver that just didn't have time to ride it anymore, his wife and daughter both road this. He lives down the street and told me if I have any questions or if I need to learn how to ride it he would show me how.

LMAO.. also his wife kept saying she doesnt go passed 3rd gear, and 3rd gear is enough, and later he also mentioned about taking my time and not to go passed 3rd gear until your comfortable riding it. Whats the deal behind this elusive mythical 3rd gear? 8-|

Welcome to the forum. Lots of good stuff on here. Looks like you have the special edition. No difference than a regular blaster just it came with black plastics, frame, and a arms. It looks like one side has either been replaced or painted. If you think it's kind of fast now, wait till you do a few mods. Most importantly to do now is get it all cleaned up. Clean carb change the oil, leak test and compression test. Check brakes and a arms, make sure lug nuts are on tight. Basically a good once over on all nuts and bolts. And yes they did come with a brake light.

Ok I will start checking Ebay for parts! Story has it a while back the ATV was in a highspeed chase with the cops and the guy had crashed it into a barbed wire fence...He walks with a limp now. ANyways the guy I bought it from has been riding it for 6 yrs. I noticed that when I have it in Neutral and push it forward I can here the rear disc brakes rubbing pretty harsh(that squeeling noise). I checked the rear brake and it works fine maybe it just needs to be adjusted?

if the brake rotor is rusty, it will make noise until you wear the rust off riding it, no big deal.

the key bypass is no big deal, i did it to one of mine cuz it sucks to kick and kick to get it started only to realize the key is off lol, i came from motocross, no keys on those bikes

replace the chain, if it breaks it will take out the case, cheap insurance, replace it and maintain the new one.

definitely clean the carb, air filter cuz i guarantee its dirty as can be judging by the lid lol dont forget to oil the air filter after cleaning.

Ok Kevinsranger will do! Cosmetically, I need 2 front fenders or Plastics and probably replace that broken front plastic as well. Are their any other years or models that will fit on these? Like interchangeable front plastics I can use? I looked on ebay and there are few front fenders for a 2005. WIll an earlier year bolt up like a 2000 or 1990's? In the picture of the lefthandle bar there is a cord that seams to be hanging off whats that for lol. As far as a battery the guy told me these dont use bateries?!? How are the lights powered and igntion firing?

The bike uses a stator to supple electrical current needed to spark and run lights. Plastics are interchangeable from 03-06. Don't just buy a new chain. Get a chain and sprocket kit.
