okay, i have been helping my buddy work on his 99 here and there trying to get this and that working.

the back caliper was completely frozen up so i took it apart and got it loose. apparently the gasket was haggard and water was getting in. anyway, i sprayed pb blaster to clean it and then put axle grease all in it and around the little ball bearings and made a new gasket for it. it seemed to be working in its motion like it should have, but after bolting it back up it's still like its frozen when i know its not. the brake cables are not in the best shape, but i got the slack out of 'em and adjusted them good.

what could be the problem other than knowing their junk to start with. i'd just like to get them to half way work because the rear hydro setup is out of the question. also, i could possibly get this blaster from him at some point dunno. anyone had decent results from tinkering with them?

only thing i can think of is putting new pads and cables on. you cant get anybetter than that with those old systems, like you said you cant turn a turd into a lump of gold no matter how hard you try hahaha

ive sanded the outside of the pad and the inside of the caliper mainly the inside of the caliper. shorty cable is a must..
use greese on the parts you sanded.. the pad that slides back and forth should do just that slide back and forth "freely". greese the o-ring around the pad and sand the area that the o-ring make contact with.. make sure when you put it on that the piston is adjusted all the way in or when you screw it down it will act like its locked. good luck man..

i greased the o-ring as well. i left nothing untouched. not sure how to adjust the piston. i thought it was like self adjusting according to how the pads wore? they are pretty new as well.
