My son is 11 and has been riding a DRX90 for some years now and was wanting a Blaster. Bought a used 2001 for 500 that needed a topend. We decided to just redo everything. So the build begins.

umm... what the heck? Im sorry, but that a lot of stuff to just post a pic on a forum. Im a member on other ATV forums and its a simple as find your pic and post. I will just cancel out of this thread and don't worry about it. I have pics in my profile if anyone cares to see. Thanks Blaaster for the reply.

you powder coated stock arms??

and in the one pic with the crank in it.... are those the dreaded paper base gaskets under the one real one??

yep... the lowers are powder coated. One base coat at 375 degrees for about 6mins and then one coat of clear at 400 degrees for 10mins. no problem with the plastic ball joint parts. I didn't move the ball joints until they cooled. He has been riding since the week before Christmas with no problems. And the two gaskets from vitos are kinda like hard paper. One on top and one on the bottom of the metal spacer.

Well, I used what came with the kit to keep the spacing correct with the stroked crank. I have not did a leak test, its running great ad no oily stuff around the bottom of the cylinder yet. Its only been a month running and doing great so far. I did re-visit the (4) lower cylinder nuts a week or so ago to re-tighten them. I understand what you are saying about the gaskets, but I wanted to keep the proper clearance for everything.

I implore you to do a leak test, every rebuild needs one, great mechanic or backyarder.

After the heat cycles one should re torque both the head and cylinder bolts to allow for gasket conditioning.

thanks guys... we swapped the Elkas from his DRX90... little shorter and a little softer mounted on the Blaster, but he says its 100 times better than stock
