hey everyone i am just looking at trading for an 99 blaster and the guy says it runs good now but may need engine work later and he says it has trouble starting sometimes does anyone know more about this year than i do??B-)

might just need a rebuild. not real hard to do, especially if the cylinder isn't scratched. just measure the bore and buy the right size piston with new rings, pull the jug and put the new piston and rings on, and go thru the break in process... i think you can get a new wiseco piston and rings for like $70 on ebay

is there instructions on how i would do this because i havent ever done that before??

how do you check your compression on a yamaha blaster so i can know if it needs a rebuild??

well do you guys think it would be a good trade if i trade him my 2005 extreme pitbike for the 99 blaster with the issues it may have??

so you think it is a fair deal because the i went and checked it out and it had a bunch of cracks in the seat and bald tires and it took awhile to start??still thinkm its a good trade??

the glory of a blaster is that no motor problem is expensive.

sounds like its just in need of a rebuild like mentioned above. rebuildign the top end is a simple job if you have the tools to do it. maybe even recruit a friend with engine experience to help make it a little faster. a top end rebuild can easily be done over 1 weekend and should be under $100. you can go to an autozone and rent a tool for compression testing. it should cost only like $5 to rent. its pasically a air pressure guage thats connected to a fake spark plug. you put in int and kick the engine over. it tells you the cylinder pressure from there. it should read over 100psi. if its less than that you need a new piston and rings. be sure to get a top end gasket kit as well.

now, as far as trade goes. yes, you have a cheap pitbike made from chineese parts. i used to have one for my kids and while fun, it broke alot and parts were a pain to get. the blaster will last you years and is quite reliable when taken care of properly. plus its much faster and has a TON of aftermarket upgrades and replacement parts on ebay. i would trade that in a heartbeat. it may take a little time and $$$ get get back to normal, but once you are there it will be more fun.

so u think i should jusdtb trade him and then do a compression check??

do u have any pics of it ?.. i would trade him cause i would think u would have more fun on a blaster then a pit bike ya kno ..
