was reading the 2 stroke tuning guide someone posted and read that for a higher rpm enigine its better to retard the timing because it reduces the heat in the cylinder and puts it out into the pipe where it belongs.

any info on this?

thats what i've heard but if i am running a dyno port which is meant to increase the over rev of the engine, wouldnt i want to retard it to keep the pressures down to keep the cylinder temps down at high revs?

you can give her a shot. every motor is a little different too. but the blaster engine is so detuned that if its jetted right i don't think you'd have much issue with too high of cylinder pressures

I'm running a dyno port on my set-up and I run a +4* timing advance. I love the way it runs. If you have an adjustable timing plate and a temp gun then you could always play with the timing to see what temp ur running and how the quad performs

245, please explain using the temp gun, and do you use it for jetting too????

hmm good points. i dont have an adjustable timing plate but i was thinking about doing my stock one with the dremel. but i dont wanna do it just because everybody does it, any engine builders wanna shed some light.
btw thanks for the info guys

no, I don't use a temp gun. I figured that if he was going to adjust his timing then it could effect the cylinder temp since he was talking about it.

advancing the timing will cause a slight increase temperatures. no engines are the same on the timing issue. i have a 90 bronco for a mud toy and factory specs is 10* doesnt really like it so bumped it up to 12* loves it, tried 14* with a performance coil and larger plug gap dont like it so much runs hot. got another ford with the same engine and it does great on the 10*

Awesome My bronco 351w liked 13 btdc msd coil, wires-e-fan.

Ok sorry-I'm very knowlegdeable about Ford broncos had one for 12 years- back on the subject-

I have no experience with advancing the timing on a blaster, but I think adding anymore heat to the motor wouldn't be that bad as long as you don't idle for long periods of time. . If your moving air through the motor you should be ok. I guess it depends on how much heat your talking about adding too.:-/
