hopin i could get some feedback...:/

i have a 35mm pj on a stock bore w/wiseco power reeds and gold series pipe.

im in florida so im at sea level. (for the most part, like 15ft) the previous owner had a 175 main w/ needle @2ndposition; and the pilot looks as if its fixed in place. ( from the factory)

the bike will not operate in the idle circuit in the slightest. throttle response is very sharp however it bogs in low rpm acceleration.

is there anyone who lives at sea level that happens to know what to do with this issue? beens pulling my hair out for days:/

well with your mods and that large of a carb the factory pilot with a 35mm carb will be to big might want to try going down a few sizes and fiddling with the idle screw... dont for get to plug chop it

any suggestions for pilot size? what is the stock size?

also, plug chop?

umm im not sure on the pilot size that would of came with that 35mm pj i thought they were labled... only way to tell would be to take it out... but you can also find procedures to do a plug chop on the forum just search for it. and it will tell you if you are jetted correctly

I don't believe they made a 35PJ, but there is a ton of 34's out there. Are you sure it is a PJ and not a PWK? Should say on the side.

I am going to assume for the moment you have a PJ34. My current jetting for my 34 is in my sig.

Standard jetting is #152, #55, 48CEG needle, #6.0 slide

Even with my fairly modded motor, I found the 55 pilot to be way too large. I recommend you try a 40, maybe even a 35. On a PJ this will really only adjust the throttle response from idle (that low bog you noticed) It does affect idle but not alot.

As far as idling goes, did you notice that you must turn the choke knob for idle speed? This is essentially an air/fuel enrichment circuit. If this is working correctly the carb slide will be all the way down and there will be a little slack in your throttle cable. It's amazing that it can idle like this, but it does.

If you have played with that and it hasn't helped then do this: Check and adjust the float. I found this to be a critical adjustment for a PJ to idle. It should be 16mm from the highest point of the float to the gasket surface. But WAIT! There's more! Be very sure that when you check it you are holding the carb on it's side so that the float barely touches the float needle. If you turn it vertical too much the weight of the float will depress the spring loaded needle and your adjustment will be way off.

When adjusting the float you should also remove the choke assy and spray out all those passages real well, especially where it comes out in the carb throat and the air bleed intakes on the filter side of the throat.

I'm at 4000 ft. (individual results may vary...)

I tend to run as rich as possilble, sacrificing maximum power for the benefit of longevity. In general, I noticed most people don't run as large as the 170 I have in it. I'm assuming it is just peculiar to my porting, cuz this baby likes it.
