Im not an engine builder by career (I still work on flathead 4-strokes regularly!), but this "spark enhancer" is not worth the $$$. The principle is sound (I like Blaaster's button idea), and increasing resistance in the high-tension lead WILL produce a hotter spark with most igniton systems. A healthy ignition coil can fire across a 3/8" gap AND the spark plug. I use an Oppama adjustable-gap ignition tester at work to check weedeater and chainsaw ignition coils in this manner. Start it up with the tester attached, throttle up, and crank the gap out until the engine dies, watching the spark. The coil must be able to fire a minum of 5/16" across the tester for the coil to pass.
HOWEVER, this extra load is hard on the coil, so we do it for test purposes only. Also, a hotter spark won't produce a noticible power gain in 99% of cases and will affect the spark plug's heat range setting (may have to go one size cooler on your plug if you were to buy a spark enhancer.)
Moral, IMO, it sounds like a good idea on paper, but like Pulstar spark plugs, this thing is mostly marketing hype meant to part the ignorant with their money.
