as some of you know i was having problems with my 04 getting oil into the crank before i swapped the motor. well i split the cases on the motor and BAM this is what i found, oh and by the way, IT RAN LIKE THIS FOR A LOOOOOONG TIME. (without me knowing,)



the pieces and what i think is a roller from the crank that caused it



and also as you may remember i had shifting problems to... I WONDER WHY?!?!

That looks like a typical broken piston skirt damage, although any foreign object will do it.
Even when open to the atmosphere the darned engine will often run with much reduced power.
Your location is probably the best. High enough to avoid most of the oil, and convoluted enough to keep some crankcase compression.

The shift shaft damage is pretty common too, from hard forced shifts.
