Hey everyone, I'm Cody and last week i saw a non working Yamaha Blaster for a really good price so I picked it up. Once i got home and got it on the ground I looked at it, I realized that i had no clue what i got myself into. I believe it's a 1995, i have no clue if it says it on the quad itself, but someone told me they think it's a 95 because of it's color. Any advice or help will be greatly appreciated thank you! here are some pictures.

2012-07-13 12.33.30.jpg Yeah it's purple with yellow rims and suspension.
2012-07-13 12.33.49.jpg I think the back looks fine, but i'm not an expert.
2012-07-13 12.34.58.jpg I think this is a cable to the spark plug..which I do not have
2012-07-13 12.36.07.jpgThis clear tube doesn't connect to anything..once again I really have no clue what it's for.
2012-07-13 12.36.34.jpg I think the tube in the middle connects to a pipe that runs through the inside of the quad, i think it's called a fatty pipe I really don't know though.

I can only put up 5 pictures in one post so in the next post so i'll put the rest.

Welcome to the site , use the search button Allot and you will learn fast !

Also You should buy a Manual for the 88-02 blaster and it will tell you where everything should go !

If there is no spark plug , thats never a good sign , hopefully its not blown

Here are more pictures of it.
2012-07-13 12.36.53.jpgwhere does this tube go, or is it there for a reason?
2012-07-13 12.37.21.jpgJust a picture of the front of it
2012-07-13 12.38.53.jpgi think this is the air filter, no filter in it though..
2012-07-13 12.39.08.jpgi think this is the filter cover..anything wrong with it?
2012-07-13 12.39.30.jpgok this is my biggest concern..i think this cover chipped and it's supposed to conceal the chain..please any pointers or advice would help this is my first quad!
More pictures will be in the next reply..

Ok, Pic two yes spark plug cap and coil, clean all that rust off of there before you put it on it will never ground. As far as where everything goes, Check out the manual for pics of it all.

Third pic looks like a vent tube for the carb. follow it and see where it ends or begins.

Here are more pictures of it.

First pic, that brown tube is a vent tube for the carb it's suppose to be there that little black tube is the oil injection for the carb.
I see nothing wrong with the air filter cover just needs screws. Most like to put a few one inch holes in it to help it breath better, but if you ride alot of water best not to do it!

Last pic is the stator/chain gaurd, Looks like someone cut it off for some reason, Should be there to prevent you fraying pants or laces from getting sucked in the chain. I have a spare one you can have for shipping if you like?

Thanks! about the spark plug..I don't know what it looks like or where it goes but I'm almost positive there isn't one in the quad the seller said that to me.

First pic is the vent tube on the other side of carb, it's looks normal to me!
I can hook u up on a good stator cover/gaurd
Just polish the clutch cover or a few guys on here offer polishing services pretty reasonable if your like me and hate polishing!

The clutch cable holder (engine end) is supposed to be under the base nut. That tells me that top end has been off very recently and not put back on properly.

i agree, look at all the sand in the intake tube where the filter should be, chances are that top end is toast, was pulled and hence it's cheap sale ?
better pull that intake off the carb and get that sand all cleaned out, without getting any(more) into the carb.
i like to use a stiff wire with a rag tied on, and douse with carb cleaner, push it back and forth until you feel you got it all out.
get a compression tester and screw it into the spark plug hole, on top in the middle of the head between the fins, feel with your finger
hold throttle wide open, and kick until the needle stops moving
report those findings to us

From what I can tell.

The carb needs cleaned, the seals are likely shot in the engine and you need a new top end rebuild perhaps.

The first things to do, is get spark,

clean the coil and put it back on, get a plug and check for spark.

make sure you got oil in the crank case and a teaspon off oil in the top of the piston, add thru where the spark plug is suppose to be.

I mention this, before you go trying to kick start it, you need to make sure its got oil in the crank case, and by the rust, its been sitting awhile, a teas spoon of oil into the top jug / spark plug whole, can help free up and prevent damage to the piston rings if they are stuck to the cylinder wall.

But even if you didnt think about this and tried kicking it over, do it anyway. it will help with the rust on the cylinder on perhaps help savbe the piston rings.

if its now blown or junk already, needing a new top end rebuild.

But download the manual and start reading, read it 3 times, before you dig into things any futher.

As you may cause more damage, just by tinkering.

I bet you will need a carb kit also. the seal/ needle is likely shot, and the gaskets.

Do you have the exhaust pipe ? I see its missing from the jug.

Dont know what you paid for it, but likely you will have to put $200 to $500 into it. Unless you are very lucky and it does not need a new coil or top end rebuild.
