how to adjust clutch from inside???

it took me 4 or 5 times to get this right, very frustrating, do all this with the cable disconnected at the hand lever so it doesnt effect the internal adjustment, remove clutch cover, loosen the small locknut and screw in the middle of the clutch basket, back it out a little, (the adjustment shaft in the middle of the clutch basket) then where the cable connects to the motor lever on the shifter side, theres a notch that lines up, look on the engine lever for the little point and a mark on the case, line these up, make sure it doesnt move while adjusting, a freind would be good here, then move to the other side, tighten the rod in with a small screwdriver till you feel it touch, then back it off 1/2 a turn, then tighten the locknut, <<<<definately use locktite here, mine almost came loose, and thats disaster, then reconnect the cable to the clutch lever, and adjust your slack, i also did this with the wheels off the ground, so i could spin them with the clutch lever pulled in, to see if the wheels spun free, or if there was engine lag as i released it, before i put it all back together

just rebuilt bottom and top end waiting on inner clutch hub dont know where the washer/nut and reg nut goes on the shaft didnt have ball bearing but i put one in it

bikebandit.com has exploded diagrams of everything,
follow the oem parts link,
then choose your make, year and model

my clutch cap has a nut cut out in the middle the same size as the little lock nut on the shaft is that not right

^^^he learned that the hard way. lol. Bill I think I got it figured out man. Shouldnt be a big deal. Your rod has the nut with the shoulder, a washer, and another nut right?

This topic has been discussed over and over nd yet I AM still having clutch problems. My clutch lever at the motor is lined up and I adjusted the nut and all. When I pull the hand lever in while in 1st gear its still engaged (as in bike won't roll) FML! Other than that gears are great. But if I continue riding like this I'm sure its a matter of time b4 I destroy my clutch

Thanks Antec. When it came apart the PO had it put together someway that the rod was actually attatched to the pressure plate. I didnt think that was right cuz when I pulled the one out of my parts bike it was not attatched. Just sat behind the plate.

thats odd.mine was like the pic when i pulled it appart.so i put it together the same way
and if you look.you can loosen the outer nut and ajust the clutch shaft and not worry about takin the clutch appart.the clutch shaft has a phillips head on it.ha i just learned somthin new
