i got my clutch cover on my blaster open waiting for new clutch to come in and i've been looking at the inside and wondering how the heck does the oil flow from the clutch side into the transmission side? i see one opening but it's up at the top and once the case is full it's nowhere near the opening... just wondering how it works lol

thanks

back/bottom, behind the clutch basket is also a transfer port

i'm looking at it and what looks to be a transfer port is really not as there is no opening. i can see one opening where the drain plug threads into but once the drain plug is fully inserted it blocks off that opening....

mabye i have the wrong drain plug?

i got sum fluid and squirted it into the transmission side through the top opening and i can fill that one side but no fluid comes through into the clutch side unless i back off the drain plug so that the on port is open then it start flowing through.......

you are on the clutch side of the engine right?
and as in your referring to clutch side and trans side you ar talking about the front to back as if you are looking at the quad?
the oil gets slung fed from the clutch to the gears, make sure you fill it with 650 ml

yeh heres a pic at what im looking at...

right now i filled the transmission side with fluid and i have the clutch cover off and no oil is making its way through in to the clutch side...the oil you do see at the bottom is whatever i spilled when fillign up the trans side... it should be pouring through but it's not

this is behind the clutch side cover under the clutch basket... you can see the drain plug threaded in blocking the only port it seems.....

ok, if you can still get your drain plug out, i would get a replacement, it looks like the head of it is almost stripped off.
second, your bottom end is very gritty looking, you should flush it out while doing other maintenance in there.

Yeh don't worry about that lol I'm already on it. I would like to know how big the drain plug is suppose to be as I'm just going to go buy a new bolt and machine it down to proper length. Mabye make it short so the threads don"t block that one port..

And yeh that grit stuff is from a really bad friction plate. And I was trying to flush it tonight when I found that oil isn"t passing through...

If you guys seen my other thread in the "general" forum "fixing my 98 blaster" you'll see what I'n dealing with..

your gonna want to get a oil plug not just a regular bolt. m12 x 1.25 pitch not sure on the length. careful it strips easy too.

now just for sh*ts and giggles, if your adding oil thru the fill hole on the clutch cover it has to be going in the right spot, there are no hidden areas in there that can hold any amount of oil without showing some signs.

no at the moment the clutch cover is OFF and there is a hole just below the kick starter gear thats where i squirted the oil in through and with the drain plug screwed in the oil stays on the trans side and doesn't pass through unless i back off the drain plug bolt a wee bit to allow the whole to open up...

there is a possibility that the oil only transfers sides when the gears are turning, maybe opening a hole every revolution of a gear to allow fluid transfer

i agree, that drain bolt may be too long, i'd buy a genuine yamaha blaster drain bolt with the proper washer behind it < it does have the washer ????

yes it has a copper washer on it. a new bolt from yamaha is almost $30 here in canada. out postal service is on strike so can't get one off ebay either..

i was just going to get a new 12mm x 1.5 bolt with a large head on it and cut it down to size on the lathe mabye half the length of the one i have now..

Ok, just looked at an old picture of my clutch cover and the oil fill plug is on top of the clutch side cover. Therefore, your putting the oil in the wrong place. You should not be able to fill the transmission with the clutch cover off.

he is puttin fluid thru an upper hole in the case halve trying to flush burnt up clutch disc out of the cases, and noticed no fluid draining out, thats when the investigation started................
i say too long of drain bolt too ?????
i knew there was a crossover down there somewhere, although my drain bolt was out when i saw mine apart, so didnt realize it was right there at that opening

yep... it would help alot if i coulod find the actual length of a stock oil drain bolt just to compare if i got the right one and something else could be wrong. but for now i'll make a shorter one and go from there...

ill measure mine real quick. Just remembered that i dont have my blaster near me but i do have my blaster engine with me lol. And sorry about the confusion earlier.
