Ok, so I took the jug off because of 2 stripped studs. I have to put new head and base gasket and cr500 studs. Do I need to hone the cylinder? I am not changing rings or anything, I just have to put it back together. thanks.

I would definitely hone it, any time you upset the ring placement in the cylinder the stand the chance of not sealing again, I hone so there us something for the ring to bite so they reseal
OK, it was rebuilt less than 6 hours of riding time ago, probably like 4 hours but the head bolts were torqued too much and stripped so I have to fix them. I would have to get the honing tool is why I asked. I will be doing it this morning if anyone has a definite answer. Arent the ring supposed to be in a certain position anyway? Seems they would already be cut in.
Providing the same ring is in the ring groove that it was in, there is no need to re hone the cylinder.
Bear in mind though you will still need to heat cycle to condition the new gaskets.

Not to be the spanner in the cogs but.. jug is off. Seems like a no brainer to have it measured and rehoned and new rings. I'd rather spend 50 bucks for piece of mind than 200 cause I was....overconfident.
4-6 hours, don't get much fresher than that.

retorque the head and base nuts after complete cool down, leakdown test again,
no long full throttle runs for a few tanks of fuel, and let 'er rip !

No more than 3/4 throttle opening, for 2 tanks of fuel.
WOT creates much pressure and forces the rings too hard against the bore, this can create excessive ring land wear.

Well, ken told me if it was 4hours on it, he was 16 years old with a 14 inch you know what, so the guy just lied to sell it. Thanks guys for the tips, I have been studying those vids for a while and got a leaky off Awk. So, on the leak he found, what did he do about it? Was it not torqued properly?
Yeah, your right, I cant believe he did it though because I went to his house and bought it and he had all kinds of toys. He said he needed room. He had an old restored chevelle, couple fourwheelers, racing dirt bike and a rzr, nice house and vehicles. I mean to screw someone over for $600, I couldn't do it. He had stripped the head bolts and squirted silicone in the bolt holes to hold them in. If it were 10 years ago, he would be needing a new top end also.
