ok quick question, i just bought everything for my top end rebuild and can't remeber if i need to hone the cylinder or not. cause i know u need to break the glaze so the rings settle in nice, but i dont know if its necesary. the bore and everything is stock just aftermarket bolt on parts

Is there any scratches, if so, or if it measures out of spec it needs to be bored. If its ok, and the piston was just screwed up, yes it is recommended to hone when using a new piston and rings.

yup hone it. any time you change rings you should hone the lite cross hatch the hone leaves on the cylinder acts like a file and that is what breaks in the rings but it doesnt last very long so you have to do it every time.

Its worth the few bucks just to hone it everytime you replace the rings so they seat properly.

just make sure you check the piston/cylinder clearance after hone.
i didn't and there was too much clearance......got low compression while it ran till eventually the exhaust port chewed the sh*t outta the piston due to it flappin around during travel.
