Ok, Im thinking about making some homemade skid plates for my Blaster. I cant afford real skid plates so I was wondering your guys-es thoughts. There's an abandoned house near mine and my neighbor always dumps there. About a year ago he dumped a bunch of big pieces of plywood. I was thinking about cutting one to size and attaching it with probably about 6 u-bolts with some big washers and bolts. What do you guys think?

member blaner from africa runs one in the same method as yours.

I believe he uses a thick 6mm plastic held on by u-bolts

@Blaner have insight brother?

HDPE plastic or something like that.

Big, might find something at the scrap yard or auto junk yard that would work wayyyyy better. Piece of hood (maybe even doubled up), truck mud flap.

Worst thing would be a false sense of protection. You think you're protected so you try that spot, instead of slowing down or going around.

Free isn't always a good deal.

WOOD???????!!!!!! Helllllll no.... Lots of threads on this, HPDE plastic, cutting board, can get sheets of plastic, street sign, scrap aluminum sheet, scrap stainless steel from counter top as example... Fairly easy to find proper materials

I can see someone blasting strait through an intersection in Big Butterys neighbor hood due to a now missing stop sign.

If you can find a de commisioned streat sign. It would work pretty well. Wood is going to disapoint you. Maybe try and find an Oem one. They work well.

my OEM one is missing. I live in a hamlet made up of 4 houses on one road. There isent many signs lol! I might take a trip to the abandoned farm house and get the hood off the 96 f150 thats been left there. Ill bring some tools and go over there after school.

That's thinking with your dip stick Jimmy!!
See, Fords are good for something !! ;)

FYI: https://www.google.com/search?sourc...hp..3.0l5.0.0.0.12577...........0.zNVST-fm70k

BTW, cutting boards are made of HDPE, might find cheap one at Dolla Store
HAHA! Its been sitting there since 2008. When we first went there it was in pretty much mint shape but now all the glass is broken and my old neighbor scrounged it for parts. We think it might have over heated because theres no coolant in it unless it all leaked out. I went there after school and took the hood. 8 bolts later! Im going to get probably 6 6" u-bolts. Im going to cut and fit it after school.

I have a plethora of street signs, they get put out of commission common and when new ones are put up they drop the old one right in the brush just behind. the hard part is, parting with them lol bc they make great man cave features.... but free metal is always nice too

6 inch u bolts? do you plan on mounting that hood to a tree?? the blaster frame is about 1.5"

Sorry guys, late to the party! Yes I made one out of HDPE, I used a white plastic butchers box.

Still holding up 100% the U bolt ends do get bashed but they just bend and go with the flow. never come loose. Id recommend it

Here it is after about 3 years, it just seems to burn off any objects and really is doing better than I expected considering I ride on swingarm busting terrain!!
