Thanks

are you talking a belly pan or the skid plate on the rotor/sprocket?? and a street sign has the tensil strength of warm dogshit

The belly pan. I know they are weak that is why I am going to double them with something stronger. Just going to have the stop sign show on the bottom.

Years ago I made a sweet skid plate on my 4wd toyota out of two signs. Both were "no parking" signs and it came out great. Not sure about the underside of an atv, but give it a shot.

I went through a little sign stealing stage in high school and accumulated a good amount. However you'd never catch me in possession of anything like a stop, yield, caution, etc. sign. It's not a good idea to remove/damage any signs that protect public safety and as dumb as we were, not once did we mess with those items. For example, 15 years ago a group of local kids were held responsible for a death resulting from a stolen stop sign. Those of you thinking of pulling a stop sign, please think twice.

Advisory bulletin over, signs might do well for light duty use but I wouldn't expect a whole lot of real world protection from impacts.

A lot of after market companies are making carbon fiber skid plates for dirt bikes. It would be sweet to make one yourself for an atv. From what I have learned working with cf is a lot like working with fiberglass, but instead of matting you use sheets of cf using a roller to squeeze out the air bubbles. The only problem is it could get really expensive fast because you need many layers to make it strong enough to withstand the abuse, and don‘t forget the resin epoxy and hardener needed and the rollers.
