So i was riding today and my front sprocket came off and went down and broke off my shifter from the case where it goes in. The shifter is still attached and it still shifts but all around the area where it goes into the case is where it broke. Would it be okay to weld it back together? I have access to an aluminum welder so the type of metal aint the problem. If welding is not an option, what is the best thing to do? Thanks in advance guys.

Pics pics. The crankcase isn't under pressure or anything, it just has to keep oil from falling out of it and the shifter lined up with everything.

You may have to disassemble the engine to get everything out of there so you can weld it but it can be repaired.

my friend had the exact same thing happen. he drained the oil and with the engine out they got it welded then they put jb weld over top of their weld to help seal the oil in. it is working great so far!!

I have a side case in my basement that had the same thing happen. I tossed mine in the scrap pile lol.

Thanks guys for the info. Darederek, didi your friend have to disassembly anything or did they just remove the engine, drain it, then weld? I'll get some pics as soon as possible, its too late for tonight thought.

they just removed it, drained it and welded it but b sure there is no oil close or it will catch fire. this probably isn't the safe way but it is the easy way
