OK the sled is an 89 cougar 500 fan. Duel carb. I got the sled for free, and as you all know anything that is free is a project and a half. I got the sled running and ripped it around the yard everything was fine. Except the whole front bulk head being steel had rotted out(go figure). So i striped the sled right down to the tunnel and bulkhead and took it to my B.o.C.E.S. class. Their i made a whole new front end for the sled. (didnt take pics like a dumb ass). Anyways I was debating what i should do with the sled, trails, or hillclimb. I chose hill climb. So what ive done is removed the whole belly pan, no cowl and added duel performance pipes with out a can. So i lost about 100lbs. And its loud as hell. I re-geared for low end, and i made clutch adjustments. Oh yeah and i put over 300 studs in the track. It does 0 to 50 in a blink of an eye and will cat walk if i can get some more traction. I just need some ideas of what to do to get some more horse power out of a fan motor. Chime in sled heads. Hears what i got as of now. Snow cross bars and plastic skis still to come.

ditch the oil injection in favor of pre mix.. sled injections are dead nuts reliable unless the hose from tank to motor brakes, BUT in this case its a weight thing

cut down the tunnel?? that goes over the track. hard to tell from the pic but it looks like you could cut 6-8 inches off it,

thats about it for simple stuff, milled heads are a option, timing mods??

I just got a free sled a couple weeks ago too. A 79 Kawasaki 340 Invader. It's liquid cooled with two 32mm mikuni's. It's still not running right. The fuel pump is working and I've put all new fuel and oil lines on it, the carbs are jetted right too. IDK what is wrong, it's got fuel, spark and compression which is everything a 2 stroke needs to run but it won't run.

what would you do next if it was a blaster??? think of it like that...
port and polished, advance the timing by turning the stator plate, premix instead of oil injection.
and beef up the clutch with some different springs and what not

id cut the tunnel, and the running boards, possibly roll the chain case back for less approach angle, big wheels in the back, does it have to 4 drivers in the front or 2 , ditch the oil injection, find some 38,or40 carbs with pod filters, mill, the heads bump the timing lighten the flywheel, roller secondary clutch,yellow/white spring and a 52-48 helix and i dodnt know what weights you are running
can you get a picture of the clutch side there might be a few more things to do

pull the carbs off and clean them!!!!! clean clean clean!! biiggg thing with sleds since the sit so long is to clean the carbs!! trust me

I would talk to rkteck he makes top of the line snowmobile engine modds or talk to SHR there all on dootalk, change the helix and add more weight to the clutch.........powder hound skis, loss the oil injection,40mm carbs keep the airbox on

Ive been cleaning the carbs, still need to tune them. Ive geared the chain case to give it a ton of bottom end. I dont see how cutting th tunnel will have any significance other than loseing 1/2 lbs of aluminum. Ive done some clutch work myself But mainly just changed springs. I was thinkin about takeing the oil injection off but once again, its like 2 pounds. I wanna find some over sized carbs, and get port work done, but i dont know any sled builders that will touch fan engins. Mainly cause they all say their not capable of building the same hp. as a liquid.

acattly on oil injection on most sleds its about 10lbs with oil in it of course but if u mix it with ur gas it evens out and the sled is still lossing 5-10lbs without the oil injection
