The guy I bought my blaster from, jimmy rigged the crankcase back together with epxoy. Long story short took it out for the first time, and noticed my shifter was loose after about an hour of driving. Ripped everything apart and found what he tried to hide. The left side of my crankcase where the shifter rod goes into the case, is completly cracked open. Got a new left side for my case, but where do I start.

For starters, download ^^^^ that service manual. It's the factory service manual and can walk you step by step through tearing your engine down to splitting the cases and then putting it all back together.

You're going to need a slew of hand tools and a few special tools. In order to do this job properly you'll need a flywheel puller, a crank puller, a harmonic balancer puller (or case splitter depending on your level of funding), an impact screwdriver with a large phillips head tip, and possibly a mapp gas torch.

Those tools can be purchased from pretty much any dealer or online dealers like ATV Parts, ATV Tires, Dirt Bike Parts, Motocross Gear, Motorcycle parts and Motorcycle Tires | Rocky Mountain ATV/MC (if you look up "crank puller" it'll come up with the tusk $59 version which is a pretty bitchin deal)

Thanks for those links. Im at the point where I need to split the case. Any tricks to this without crankcase splitter?

Just make sure all the screws are out of the cases, I'm pretty sure there are 13 total. Then lay the motor on the left side, and with a little force the right side will come right off. After that, lift the tranny out and then use the harmonic balancer puller to push the crank through the left side crank bearing.

Thanks for all the feedback. I need to purchase a harmonic puller still ( was to late to purchase one at local dealer tonight ) I was told I might be able to weld old casing.... Yes or no. Will upload pics once I get around my computer.

Had this similar issue only mine was at the kick starter only a matter of days after doing my 240bbk build only to have the bbk blow up shortly after getting it back together.

Anyways i purchased or had all the said tools and didnt use any of them besides the clutch tool and balancer puller.the cases came right apart after a few well placed taps with a rubber mallet.

Splitting the cases isnt a big deal theres not much to it.took me a few hours but i also painted mine before reassembly.my advice is get acess to the manual and take pics other than that its a breeze.

ok so i got crankcase pulled apart. now i need to put everything back together, do i need a special tool to press the crank back through the casing????
