ok i got some brakes today and i ant get the brake apart the bolts are stuck and there is this long bolt that is connected to the cable that runs into the brake im trying to unscrew that for the last half an hour and i cant get bolts apart i tried wd 40 but stilll wouldnt come out please help! thanks

take a torch and heat it up a little, and get some more leverage on the screw if you can

Try and tighten the bolt first to help get it broke loose, the loosen it

Also WD40 sucks compared to something like Liquid Wrench, PB Blaster, Kroil, etc. Get a REAL penetrating oil and spray it on there and let it soak for 10 minutes or so.

Also, theres other tricks, such as a rubber mallet and an endwrench (put the endwrench on the bolt, and hit it with a rubber mallet), or just use a plain ol impact gun if you have access to one. Another trick is to hit the head of the bolt square dead on with a hammer after putting the penetrating oil on it. And of course you can always try heating it up with a torch as well.

Theres a bunch of different tricks that will help you with rusted on, stuck, siezed bolts and nuts.

To be honest though, by far, good penetrating oil will take you a LONG way. Go buy some Liquid Wrench or some PB Blaster from the local parts store. Its kinda spendy, but a can goes a long way, and it REALLY kicks the crap out of WD40 for that sort of thing.

thanks guys i took some liquid wrench sprayed it on pulled and tugged as hard as i could and finnaly came out!

as a mechanic, some good tips for getting stuck bolts i find..

-first soak with pb blaster or other equivalent
- make sure you are using the correct size tools (metric vs standard)(12pt vs 6pt sockets)
-Make sure your sockets are that of a good name brand, i wouldn't expect the regular Joe to be buying snap on and matco tools, but i highly recommend you go on down to sears and get a nice set of craftsman sockets.
- Your best bet is an impact gun, electric or air.. make sure the gun is held tight to the bolt so it doesn't round it off.
- if no impact is available , your next is to replicate the impact gun by putting a wrench or socket on the stuck bolt, and hitting it with a hammer instead of applying steady force, the jolt of force by the hammer will almost always set it free.. a 3lb sledge works best.
- if all else fails and it is completely seized, you will have to resort to drilling it out.
