helm joints

you mean ball joints be replaced with helm joints? well you could probably do it, but i wouldnt. the only thing i would use helm joints for is building a set of tie rod ends, or sway bar links on a car. done them both

Heim joints are actually much better than ball joints. They do wear a little faster but they articulate more.I have and do try both and heims are much much better.IMO

See, I'm from the ball joint camp. I ride muddy/sandy conditions and water/clay/sand condition would require a set of hiem joints a year if not more often

I like ball joints. You have a layer of rubber between your suspension parts and the elements. I expect several years hard abusive riding before I need to service ball joints.

Plus, if your suspension is setup right, you're only giving up 1 1/4- 1 1/2 travel on "normal" arms. Sure you could setup a front suspension to get upwards of 12" of travel but your quad would have to be modified to the hilt AND be like 72" wide (like phragle and the "bastersaurus")

if you get good heim joints they don't wear out too quickly at all!!! If you buy cheopo ones, sure they will.

Think of it this way, a ball joint is a ball in a plastic socket with grease and a boot to cover it.

A heim joint is heat (and sometimes cryoed) steel on steel spherical ball in socket joint. If you get good ones they don't wear out too fast at all. DON'T LUBE HEIMS!! Lube just keeps dirt and grime in the joint and will make them wear. I don't lube mine at all and have had beat on the same ones for like 4-5 years on my big jeep that sees offroad abuse and 70+ mph highway use. If they're good enough for my jeep, they're more than sufficient for the suspension on a blaster!!

I've been debating getting a set of heims to replace the failing balljoints on the tie rods, just haven't been home all summer or had the ambition to break into (nor the cash)

If you can get the correct size in a good quality heim, go for it.

They should last longer too as even when they get dirty, the dirt falls off and since there is no boot to keep the dirt there, they clean themselves off and don't wear. This is if you get good ones. Cheap-o tractor link ends wear out quickly, but those are not the same.
