hi everyone. I have a 2001 blaster that i just put a brand new wiseco in and is ported and bored .80 over. i had it running for a few minutes but it shut off on me and wont start back up. when i kick too fast, the kick start flies back up on me. the engine backfires and when that happens, oil shoots out of the exhaust port..? Please, any help is much appreciated!

Was the flywheel torqued down when you (or somebody else) put the engine back together?

You've got a sheared flywheel key. I'd bet money on it. I bet the flywheel nut came loose and the key sheared, throwing off your igntion timing. Take the plastic cover and flywheel off (use a puller!!) to investigate. Chances are all you'll need is a new key. Don't kick on it any more until you find out and fix what happened, because one of these times, the engine is gonna kick back too hard and drive the kicker through the clutch cover and/or your ankle.

I bet thats what it is because when the engine shut off i heard a spinning noise. would i be able to see the key by just taking the cover off? I don't have a puller

You may not need a puller if the flywheel was already spinning freely on the crankshaft when the engine stopped. NO, you can't see the key by just taking off the cover, but you CAN immediately spot a loose (or missing) flywheel nut. Take the cover off and have a look.

Remember, there should be a thick metal spacer (washer) between the flywheel nut and the flywheel. If this spacer washer is missing, the flywheel can come loose no matter how tight you get the nut. Replace a missing spacer before trying to run the engine again.

ok thank you so much buddy. this thing sounded so sick when I started it and i really want to ride it. Much appreciated!!
