How do you guys ride steep trails, or park your quad on a hill without having a parking brake?

Im looking at a rear brake kit that doesnt have a parking brake and wondering how Id get along without one, if I constantly use mine (I do constantly use mine).

i always used to just put it in gear. make sure you leave the killswitch off though just in case it gets rolling lol

I ride where there are decent hills and I have to use mine. My quad will roll on a lot of them.

Not having one isnt really optional.

Id like to find a way to make awks rear kit have a locking mechanism or something. I want the kit, but I need a parking brake. Maybe its different where I live, but I ride primarily in the mountains (think alpine scenario, 8-11k feet average).

what about if you use awk's kit, and then just rig up a way to use just the fronts as a park brake

thats what im told him, he says his bike has no front e brake ???? what???
all blasters have had 4 wheel e brakes

I dont know if you guys are being smartasses or not.

Mine has no front parking brake. Are you saying to just use a strap on the front lever to keep it actuated while Im parking? I might be willing to do something like that.

Seriously tho, if Im supposed to have a front parking brake and I dont please let me know. I know nothing about Blasters other than what Ive figured out through troubleshooting on my own piece of sh*t.

I do know that I absolutely hate my stock brakes, and I NEED a parking brake. I know banshees have parking brakes and I can make their rears work, but I also know awks are better than banshee rears, and Id be about supporting my forum and brothers on here, and Id love to buy awks kit. So Im looking for a non ghetto way to retain some sort of a parking brake and be able to use awks kit.

Ive considered finding a way to use a line lock or something like that. That would work. Just not sure how feasible it would be, and how much line/fluid it might add to the equation.

we aint bullshittin you dude, all blasters have had 4 wheel e brakes, even the 03+ hydros, maybe someone broke that stock lever and replaced it with a genaric one, but i'm sure someone has a stock one, for ya, that will have the locking tab still intact

you could also just wait for a nice flat spot to stop, why the side of a cliff ?????

There is a little lever by the end of the front brake lever( the side that connects to the bars not the open end). If you pull the brake lever in hard then Flip the lever down and let out the brake the lever will keep the front brake locked.

I just zip tie the front brake lever to the handlebars....

only do that when I put in the black of the truck or trailer though...

the 03+ only lock the back brakes, the e-brake is in the clutch side, not the front brake lever, and the cable only goes back to the rear

if yours was made before 03 it will have this, if it wasnt, you have no use for this because you have front hydros

Yamaha Blaster 200 ATV Front Brake Lever: eBay Motors (item 390201649845 end time Aug-25-10 11:06:46 PDT)

you just pull the lever in, and the little thing i have circled in the attached pic gets pushed down and it gets wedged in between the perch and the lever and if your brakes are adjusted right, it holds the front brakes locked and the rears if you have cables, which you dont. so you could use this to just use your fronts and it will work just fine
