doing some rebuilding and spliting the cases and my outer clutch basket has grooves in it. Not real bad but noticabable. Will this have negative effects on my clutch or enguagement?
another problem i had was when i was getting towed back to camp i was in gear with the clutch pulled in and by the time i got there the clutch handle stayed down. clutch looks fine and cable isnt broke. any ideas?
bad idea dude. should have put in neutral. how fast were ya goin? you might have welded the ball and pushrod for the clutch together. kind of a pain to fix. never ever use the clutch to coast longdistances in anything car, truck, atv, bike, anything
yeah it wasnt far and wasnt going fast thought it would be ok but zaaap. haha. i guess ill be ordering a new ball. there is one on ebay with clutch basket for 90. just more money....
also when they weld together (because the extended friction of holding the clutch handle while coasting) the ball becomes oval and jams against the sides of the shaft and sticks there. pain in the ass to get it out. you might even have to split the cases if it is extremely stuck
like i said you can file the groves on the basket down. it works fine. you will just have to replace the basket next time so that you don't get too much play between the discs and teeth on the basket. you can get a 3/16 ball bearing for some change but you will probably need to order the rod from bikebandit or somewhere like that.
take some pictures of your basket, because like scott said, you can file them down, i usually file mine down a little when i put a new clutch in. it they the clutch disc are too loose the is bad, if the grooves are deep that is bad.
pictures will help.
