OK, so I replaced my clutch side crank seal cause I was burning tranny fluid. When I tighten the nut that holds the 2 gears on the crank shaft, there is a little resistance on the crank shaft, it doesn't spin as free as it does with the nut off (I have my top end off). Is this normal because of the new seal? It kind of looks like the collar that sits behind the 2 gears is spinning in the seal when the nut is tightened. Is it supposed to?

yeah i think that is normal..the pressure from the bolt locks the collar to the inside of the bearing to the crank...did you lube the inside sealing surface of the new seal? that is good that the seal is tight on the collar that means no leaks...my guess is it is just dry and causing a little resistance.

you must be sure the crank is dead central in the cases it floats i nthe bearings so sometimes you gotta tap it in so it doesnt rub on the side ,cause it should spin freely

It spins real nice with the nut off that holds the gears to the crank shaft. It's only when I tighten the nut that there is a little resistance. From what I can tell, the resistance is coming from the collar spinning in the seal like Dburroug said. Just wasn't sure if that collar was supposed to spin.

You know what thats real funny .. my crank was completly locked up.. I could stand on the kickstarter - no movement atall. . .It started REALLY hard at first, then got harder and harder and ultimatly jammed total.. But when i removed the case and nut, it started to spin freely.. Thats also why im doing rebuild..

The crank bearings have very little play so i suspect that why it vibrated and touched insiden .. The crank had scraped some material off inside the housing.. and in the top, actually the same place you grind for a +3mm crank, it had hit and made a mark... it can hopefully all be fixed with a little grinding.. I will be grinding anyway since i ordered a stroker crank..

your bearing must of been pretty bad in the lower rod before to cause that much movement. when i redid mine the crank spun really nice and easy when i got it together. make sure your crank bearings are installed all the way. I would recheck your crank bearing on the stator side and make sure it's seated all the way. it might be out a little and pushing the crank over to the clutch side a little and giving you problems with binding when you try to tighten the nut up. that's why flotek said you might have to tap it.

Ahh, ok, I see what you guys are saying. Like the crank is a little off center, causing it to bind a little when I tighten it up. Ok, I'll give it a tap and see if it helps. Everything was fine until I pulled the crank seals (I did both sides) But now that I think about it, I did miss with the hammer a couple times on the stator side, so maybe the crank moved over a bit. Thanks for the replies guys.

i see n this a million times it must be centered i nthe cases , it must absolutely spin free and not stiff to pump ,if it doesnt ...theres a clearance problem
