So I was riding today and while going through the trails i started to notice a rattling sound coming from my motor. I immitiatly let off the throttle and killed my motor. I then waited a while and let the motor cool down while I looked over the outside for anything out of the ordinary. Didnt find anything. Once cooled I kicked it and the motor started first kick as usual and therer was no noise. I started to ride home and noticed that the bike wasnt as snappy as usual, kinda down on power i guess. Once home I let the motor cool and did a leakdown test no leaks. Pulled the plug to check compression and it was down to about 120. At this point I was kinda scared because yesterday it was155psi. I pulled the head and almost threw up.

I looked everything over and the only thing i could find wrong was a miising piston ring locator pin on the top ring. Im assuming that this pos wiseco was the culprit because theres no other sign of anything out of the ordinary all gaskets were good and ive always had the motor jetted a little rich ( im suprised it was this clean inside considering its probally got 25-30 hrs on topend)somthing had to have done this carnage.Suprisingly there wasnt much damage to the cylinder walls theres no deep scratches or gouges only seen a dent in one of the transfer ports not on the cylinder but inside of it. Has anybody ever had this happen with a wiseco or did i just get a dud?

Ahh man that sucks! I pulled off my head to expect a destroyed piston but i was surprised. Too bad you werent as lucky! Top end rebuild it is! Ive never heard of a wiseco doing that bad when they go out but ive only had a balster for 6 months so i dont know much about two smokers.

Yea ive never had any issues out of wiseco products. On the plus side ive got a ported 240 with a Woosner 72.25 piston thats been waiting to get slapped on my +3 bottom end.

By the way, if that truck is your in your profile pic that is sweet!

Yea thats my 2000 Gmc Sonoma its bagged and bodied and everything has been shaved. Its my baby! Im working on a 1987 2dr S-10 blazer right now. its got a vortec 6.0 and 4l60e tranny. Its gonna be way lower than the sonoma lol

Yeah i love lowered mini trucks and suvs but when it comes to full size trucks they almost absolutly need to be lifted. Thats just my style. Lol.

Yea thats kinda my philosiphy. my 2001 jeep cheerokee has a 6in lift and 33's and lockers front and rear. i live in Oklahoma so i gotta have somthing lifted or the rednecks talk to much crap on my minis lol

This cylinder is in pretty good shape still its the one from my sig. I think i might get it bored the next size up and sell it on here since i dont really need it. I dont know if that head is salvageable though. it was a pretty stout +3 setup

you said the piston ring locating pin was mia? i'd bet that's what caused the damage. I would possibly contact wiseco about the issue and see what they'll do for you.

that cylinder looks like it could just be honed assuming that it is still round and within spec.

Yea I dont see what else it could have been. I had thought about contacting them but I'm wondering since I had they're piston modified with a boost port will they still back it up. I mean I know there's no way that this modification could have caused Turpin to come out but I wonder if they will see it that way.

I found a wiseco box sitting around is for a lt500r piston but I assume they're the same and I says its covered under an exclusive limited warranty. I dont have any of the paperwork that says what's covered. Anybody have a clue what is?

that is an unfortunate event! ive heard of the pins coming loose, closest I git once was a pin that wore down causing rings to rotate and getting them jammbed inthe exhaust on a wiseco

Yeah, im in indiana, but the rednecks are all around, lol. They hate on anything lowered. One of the guys around here has his cavalier on a 4x4 drivtrain and lifted up, thats redneck. If i remeber i will get a picture of it next tine hes around in it.

LOL plz do I gotta see that!

So this topend just cost me even more money. While removing the piston from the connecting rod a piece of metal came flying into my right eye from i dont have a clue where. Had to go get it removed at the eye Dr. I had no clue that the used drills on eyeballs but apparently its common practice after removing a foriegn object to drill out anything left behind. Needless to say my eye hurts and i look like a douche with an eyepatch for a week lol. Whats really dumb is i had a pair of safety glasses on top of my head when it happened.
