royalt, with an intelligent CDI like the 03 -06 has it's totally possible for yamaha to use the timing of the source coil compared to the trigger coil to tell if it's running backwards, I just never thought that yamaha would use their brains and design that in there like that. Good dig, greens!

Thanks everybody. It was the key. I got one at a hardware store it was a little wide, ground it down and Im back in business.
