I'm buying a 400ex tomorrow for 1800 which is a really good deal for this area. They usually don't go below 2000 no matter what. This one is an 02' it has a aftermarket front bumper, handguards, rims, holeshot rears and razr fronts. New chain an sprockets, it's geared for hills so that's cool. I think that's all. It's yellow and in pretty good condition, no cracks or breaks in the plastic. Looks real good. And for 99lrd the engine and exhaust is stock I believe so no worries about me there. It's staying that way for a while. He's bringing it to me tomorrow after school and if everything checks out then it's mine. I'm extremely excited because I have always had a deep love for a 400ex even though I've never rode one or anything. Just always loved them.

I'm going to try my hardest to keep her going For as long as possible. How often should the oil be changed? What kind of maintenance should be done on it and how often?

Get a Clymer manual and it will tell you. On 4 strokes I typically change the oil every 10 hours of ride time or depending on how hard I am running it, but that's just me.

on all my 4strokes i had every 5-10 hours and get a resuable oil filter they work great and save money in the long run ,only use good oil to them sh*tty cheap brands do nothing good for your tranny!

Ok so that's good cause I think I can get that oil at walmart or even the local auto parts store. The only downside to the 400's is that they don't have reverse. No big deal for me but it's always handy to have.

Your gonna hate not having reverse on the 400ex in some places blaster is easy to pick up and throw around when you get in a bad hole don't count on that with the 400ex. Any good name brand oil would be good to use I'm a pennzoil man myself

To be honest I don't think I'm going to even need reverse. Where I'm riding isn't anywhere bad enough for reverse. I'm just riding through the woods on some trails and on a pipeline and at a gravel pit (hopefully). I still gotta get ahold of my neighbor to make sure I can ride in his gravel pit.

mine wheelies like a dream easier then the blaster lol my yfz was a nice quad to wheelie aswell though

The 400ex and LTZ400 have a similar rides and chassis setups. Quite frankly, both need slightly longer swingarms and more width, but in stock form with the torque they produce it makes it really easy to wheelie on demand.
