Fuel/Oil Ratio.

Hi guys i am wondering what's the best fuel and oil ratio to use. my mate runs 25:1 and i was wondering if that is too little as i was going to use the same. but don't want to run it if it blows my engine etc. i use to run 25:1 in my 2 stroke bikes but not sure if a blaster is different with the ratio.

Facts:

-A 25:1 fuel to oil mix ratio contains more oil in the fuel than the more commonly-recommended 32:1 mix ratio most of us Blaster riders run.
-The larger the first number is in the ratio, the LESS oil is present in the fuel. (25:1 contains TWICE as much oil as 50:1)
-People have run ratios from 16:1 all the way up to 80:1 with mixed results.
-Blaster engines will run fine on 32:1 as long as you run quality oil.

Now, for the opinions.

In my experience, a 32:1 mix ratio works well for mineral-based 2 stroke oils. Castor bean oils can, (and probably should) be mixed a tad richer at 25:1. Fully-synthetic 2 stroke oil can be mixed at 50:1 in most cases with no problem.

I run full-synthetic AMSOIL Dominator oil premixed 50:1. Im 100% sold on 50:1 when running synthetic oil, because I ride hard in all conditions and have yet to overheat or lose compression. 2 years and counting. Furthermore, I repair small, air-cooled 2-stroke engines for a living, many of which run at full power for hundreds of hours on 50:1 premix. They don't fail unless run on inferior oil.

Wait, what? I've been confused for the past 10mins.... you said 25:1 contains TWICE as much oil as 50:1 .. doesnt 25:1 countain HALF AS MUCH? :-/

25 parts gas: 1 part oil, 50 parts gas: 1 part oil. 50:1 has twice the amount of gas for the same amount of oil.

Myself I run Klotz Benol @ 28:1 in both Banshee and Blasturd. Blaaster runs his @ 25:1. There is a good sticky in engine section entitled "Oil ratios, myth and fact" It's a good read. IMHO, 32:1 is popular because 1qt. to 4 gal. , easy math.

I think you meant pint instead of quart? 16oz = 1 pt

Run it 32:1.. More oil is better than less. But that doesn't mean put a whole lot.. I'm pretty sure 32:1 is 8 oz of oil to 2 gallons of gas.

I was waiting to see when somemone would mention the fact just adding more oil without increasing jet size actually leans it out. (more oil without proper jetting for the increase of oil = lean). Remember gas cools oil lubes.

Any changes in oil ratios will upset jetting and should be confirmed by a plug chop.

The changing of oil ratio can be a usefull tool to fine tune jetting for performance.

I run a rather thick mix of oil at 25:1 most of the time, but as winter approches I gradually decrease the amount of oil in the mix to richen the gas up to compensate for the cold.

If you are finiky about jetting for performance one can effectivly adjust the oil ratio to simulate an increment of a 1/4 of a jet size.
