Lapeer, Mi
I got an 01 blaster pretty much stock except a UNI open filter and a 260? jet in it...whatever you guys told me to put in. Ran GREAT this summer, started on the 3rd kick always.
Now, its getting colder here in MI and its taking alot more kicks to start, around 50 I would say. I sometimes have to hold the throttle open too for it to pop. Any thoughts on this? Do I need to jet down for the winter with this? Should I put the 230 back in and the airbox for the winter?
Also, I got a FMF pipe for the quad, can I keep the 260 jet or so I need to up it more?
Thanks guys :)

well you should go up one because of the fmf. but the not starting thing would not be due to your jetting. i say your looking at a top end rebuild. Hows the compression?

I run a 260 main jet with FMF full pipe but with a stock engine,Stock filter and airbox lid on.And here in the uk it is freezing at the moment and mine runs great.

Cool, whats acceptable for compression? Also, it starts on the first kick after its been run, just idles low. So with the FMF and winter I want to run a 270 or so?

it worrys me that it takes you 50 kicks the first time.
when its warmed up the rings are expanded more giving you better copression while hot.
you ring may be worn in other words.
also you added the pipe without jetting it?
id say you need more then a 280 even..

I havent put the pipe on yet, I just have it sitting around waiting to be put on. Also, so maybe a 290-300 jet for winter and the pipe? What about when it comes back to summer? Wouldnt I be to rich?
Should the compression test be when the engine is warm or cold?

do the copression test cold.
i run a 300 in a stock bike wth a fmf but im in florida you may want to go richer then that even.. you have to do plug chops it hard for anyone to tell you your jetting.

Here in MA I mostly used a 270 with FMF fatty, no airbox cover, uni, etc, but ran a 280 for a few weeks when it was REALLy cold. Once it warmed up I ran 250 and would just play with the needle clip depending on if it was hot out or just mild.
