Hey there.

im new on this forum, also from south africa.
i got a 03 Blaster 2 days ago. today for the first time we took for a spin around town.
then after a while i noticed a strange sound coming from the engine.

1. the quad is almost brand new. still has original tyres. plastic on seat.
not driver far or hard. got it for a nice bargain from an old guy.

2. so this is how it happens. the quad starts on first kick. idles perfect.
revs perfect. drives perfect. from 4 gear when you accelerate it makes that noise ( run a screwdriver on a chain for about 10 links that kinda noise)
it does that for about half a second. and then its gone.
so it only happens on high speeds. 4th gear and up. doesn't do it for long like i said only half of a second.

3. sound like its coming from the front sprocket.

4. if you deaccelerate and accelerate again it does it again.
so im worried cause its my first 2 stroke.

if you have any idees or tips please let me know.
thank you / kind regards

hey.
Its there, the bottom and top is there with the guide at the back.
chain is waxed with wynns chain lube and perfect.

any thing else you think?
Could it be the engine? thats my main concern?

Thank You

Set the frame up on something so you can check it out, rear wheels off ground. Check the axle bearings in carrier and try moving whole swingarm side to side. Also put it in neutral and roll rear tires over for several rounds to check for noise from chain. Look at both sprockets closely for worn/missing teeth. If you find nothing here, pull spark plug, put in 4th/5th and roll wheels over to check for your noise. Check that both sprockets are secured properly and nuts holding hub are tight. Check for slop of hub to axle.

Not saying by any means you should be woried. But if you loose 4th gear I wouldent be surprised. I went to go look at an 04 special. In the middle of the week before I going to check it out the kid said he rode it a little. When he did he said he herd a very loud GRRRRRRRRR noise coming from the bike and said he instally lost power and lost 4th. gear. But tried to sell me that it was an easy fix and it would be rideable for the most part. "I know better and passed on it" The things is it's eather something or it better be nothing wrong whith these bikes. Because the only thing that should go wrong with them is their engines and even thats a straight forward fix. If you lose a gear I strongly urge you to get your money back. Good luck dudeI:I

Hey guys

I found the problem this morning.
at the back sprocket, the two axle lock nuts where lose.
i tightened it up, went for a little drive. tightened it again. double checked
and the noise was gone.
the chain was hitting the guide and the roller in the front.

thanks for the help.
will upload pictures of the quad soon

the same thing happend to both the 05 blasters in my garage finally got some locktight put it on the threads cranked on it real good and it haven't come loose again

keep an eye on those nuts....if they've come loose once they'll come loose again. you have to really crank on them to get them to stay. Crank on the first, then on the second, and once the second is night and tight, do your best to try to loosen the first, which essentially tightens it against the second nut so that it won't come loose.

Tighten first nut 55N/M - 40 ft/lbs. Hold inner nut and tighten outer to 190N/M - 140 ft/lbs. Hold outside and tighten inner against outer to 240 N/M - 177 ft/lbs. Page 300 Clymers.

Nothing beats an inexpensive problem if you have to have one at all.
