My exhaust flange is blowing out quite a bit of black thick ooze. Dunno if it's crank oil? Would a bad crank seal cause this? I don't think there is an air leak though, it's not idleing high or erratically or anything.
Well, I just got it all back together today and ran it for a couple mins. i had it idleing in the garage while i was adjusting the air screw and in a few minutes time it blew out enough to be sprayed all over my pipe and dripping onto the floor. Haven't done a plug chop yet as I just got it together, but right now I have a 152 main, clip in the middle and a 48 pilot with the air screw 2 turns out. Oh, and my O ring is definetly in.
is it mounted right? sounds like some sort of gasket is missing... ( yes they make exhaust flange gaskets) that or you need to replace the gasket.. it it tightend down with a torque wrench to the specified torque?
No it didn't smell like poo (lol) but I didn't replace the seals. Suppose I should have though, my motor just seized. Was running it to do a plug chop and that was that. I must say, it ripped ass for the whole 15 mins I got to play with it though. I'll tear it down this weekend and see what kinda damage I did.
man that really sucks , do a leak down test on it before you fire it up next time ,if those seals are leaking thats really bad also i wonder if there was an area that didnt get enough yamabond on it and it sucked air when you put it back together .you might get fortunate and it only has minor damage, thick sludge is definitly a sign its not sealed right and taking in tranny fluid
Yeah, I get impatient like that, not a good thing when doing mechanics. Well, my brother said it was blowing a ton of white smoke from the exhaust when I took off, so it definately was burning tranny oil. My kickstart is stuck solid, how do I go about unsticking the piston?
pull the head off first ,then spray pb blaster down inside the barrel all around the piston take a big rubber mallet tap vigrousouly all around the sides of the jug and pull it up and out off the piston, dont keep kicking it over hoping it will unseize itself .it wil lcause more damage that way .now when it comes time to get her up and runnign again call me we will go over a check list carefully and be sure everything is on the up and up.
Cool, thanks for the help Denny, prolly be a week or two before I get to it, got a 21 day straight work marathon going on right now, and I'm only 4 days into it
Ok, so the damage is minor, but I'd like to kick myself. What ended up happening is one of my coils came loose (not sure how, I must of forgot to tighten it) and jammed up in the flywheel. So, all i'm out is a new coil and I gotta replace the crank seals. I took the top end off, and both side covers to inspect everything, and it's all good so I'm happy. Can't wait to ride it, it's a completely different animal now.
