Engine painting ideas

Im ready to paint my engine. I want to do something different than the all black stock engine. My bike will have a maroon frame and white plastics. I dont think they sell a maroon high temp paint. Does anyone know? I would love to paint it maroon but I just have never seen it in high temp paint. Anyway I was thinking of painting the jug black them some how only painting the ends of the fins silver. I thing this would look cool but how would you do this. All ideas welcome!

Paint it high heat white on the jug, head and block. Paint the side covers maroon. The side covers don't need high heat paint.

True on the side covers. But i dont know about the whole white engine idea. Seems a little extreme. Still would be interesting if you could just paint the ends of the cooling fins.

Powdercoating would work! I do lik the black/silver idea!

I painted my engine with rustoleum engine enamel, not much for color selection, however I'm sure you could find a cool color to match, just for the cases and cylinder.

The side covers don't need high heat necessarily, so I would think to match those with maroon. Maybe a white engine with maroon covers, and fill in the yamaha on the side with a white paint pen? That would be my suggestion

Powder coating is too expensive. Places around me charge a lot. They wanted $400 to do my frame. So Im just spraying it myself with auto paint.

Are you guys really suggesting a white engine???? Has anyone done it before. Im picturing something ugly in my mind but maybe Im wrong...

An idea just popped in my head. What if I sprayed it silver first to get the edges of the fins good in silver. Wait for it to dry and run some real thin painters tape (1/8") over all the fins and spray it down with black. I think this just may work!

You got to be kidding me......... I tried googling some pics of a white blaster engine and couldn't find any. Maybe theres a reason why no one has ever painted their engine white. Because its HIDEOUS!!!!!!

Why don't you paint the jug then take a sanding block to the end of the fines. You can high heat clear coat it after.

So your saying by sanding it back your going to be getting the color of the casting which is like silver?

Yup. You can go over it a couple of times steping down to a finer grit eCh time to get close to a polished look.

Could do almost any high heat color you like on head/jug then paint edge of fins contrast color. Modelers (small) brush, sprau small amount into corner of cap, paint, repet. Seems to me one of the auto makers used a maroon color back in the 60s, Mercury ? Reason I suggest this way is you don't want to build the paint up to thick, would hurt heat transfer. If you notice stock jugs have very thin paint.

X2. Definatly the best way to do it. I painted the jug on my warrior black and then sanded and polished the edge of the fins and it turned out great.

I know, your idea was good too

As far as the polishing and what not, be sure to coat it with clear, unless you plan to be polishing it every few weeks or so. That said, I really like the polished look.
