Easiest Swap?

What is the easiest and least expensive engine swap possible on a Blaster frame? Any motors that will just bolt right in? I'm looking to have a bigger motor.

dt200 seams easy the bottem end looks identical to a blaster and stock it has 32hp put a big bore in that and there some power and it is also liquid cooled

My son and I have a DT200 and contemplated this swap when he bought his Blaster broken with a hole in the bottom of the engine. While the engine will swap quite easily, the electronics needed to work the power-valve and the plumbing needed for the liquid cooling were rather daunting. Besides the broken piston skirt and the hole in the case, his motor was in very good shape so we fixed it. Timing, porting, and compression mods livened up the engine considerably over stock. And he still has his DT200 to ride too.

Any liquid cooled motor will require a rad. Any 4 stroke motor will be heavier and generally are higher. Some of the older Yamaha 2 stroke have the same swingarm bolt size and the sprocket to left swingarm location seems similar. An earlier air cooled Yamaha engine could be the simplest swap, easiest way to more displacement.

More modern Yamaha MX engines make make huge HP, but you will have to deal with water cooling, adding weight and complexity.

I am doing a KTM 250 swap into my Blaster at the moment. Not impossibly difficult, swingarm bolt, chain size are the same. Front mount is close, just required some trimming and re-drilling. Had to really trim the swing arm on the left side, requiring some re-welding. Kick starter is very close to the frame gusset. Had to trim the gusset a bit for clearance. Pipe is going to be difficult, and cooling is not done, waiting for a rad.

My advice?
If you haven't done a swap before, stick to the Blaster motor and hop it up.
There is a lot of hidden power in it that is easily and cheaply found.
I have trouble following my own advice...

with the dt200, is you swap over everything, it isn't that hard. if you have the electronics already, like the stator and wiring harness, it should be easy.

Other than the dt200 nothing will drop right in , anything will require custom mounts and some hours of head scratching before it works correctly .
Here's my 2 cents . Take your blasty completely apart to the bare frame , and start by gusseting the frame for strength . Then with that done find your engine and get it in there and just continue getting it all back together .
I like the yz250 swap , it's bad ass when it's all done . I pondered putting a banshee motor in mine , and a 660r as well . I'm sticking with the banshee , bigger frame is nice to have . Good luck

Yeah. I know that my Blaster isn't built as far as I can go but most of it was done by the previous owner and he beat it. I've been fixing it up since I got it from him and it's been getting better and better but I still would like something more reliable. Idk if its like that for all Blasters but things just go really quick on mine so far. Nothing major but it adds up when your 15 and can't get a job.

What do you mean by "things go quick" ? Your money, or parts wearing out?:-/

Parts just wear out WAY too fast. I mean I'm replacing wheel bearrings like once every two months and the carrier bearrings go bad quick even when my chain is aligned and tight. Shock bushings and swingarm bushings go quickly too. But thats all with the Blaster and thats part of the reason why Im selling. I know a different motor wont help with wear but I figure if things are going to go this fast, I might as well go fast too. lol

How tight are you getting your chain? You shouldn't be putting carrier bearings often. They should hold up for at least a year.

If you have a spindle that has been torn up before it will allow the hub to wobble and tear up the seal which will let dirt in the bearings. Also, if your toe is off it will chew up bearings

Yeah I know how to get my chain perfect. And I know the spindles are great. Well actually I should check one out after the wreck.... Thats for the help man. Rep given. =]
