You guys dont need to mess around with blockoff plates when you switch to pre-mixing your gas and oil.
All you have to do is remove the clutch cover, remove the C clip from the oil pump drive gear and pull the gear off. Make sure you remove the shearpin that goes through the shaft. Congrats, You have just stopped the pump from spinning. Now put the clutch cover back on with a new gasket and you are done. Well you still have to remove the hoses and cap the nipple on the carb.
No buying "kits" or making your own and dealing with leaks.

and your clutch cover is on the left side.. and the oil pump is on the right side... sooooooooooooooo...... were removing the clutch cover why??

side note.. thats how mine is/was removed on both my blasters... except.. the right cover is removed..

Umm... It is one piece that covers the entire right side of the engine. The only way to get to the gear is to take it off. I am talking about the internal gear thats driven off the crank. This way you stop the entire pump from spinning. Just trying to save some people money and time.

i dont think that $30.00 is that much money to do it right. not to mention the kit comes with everything needed. gaskets, plugs for the trans cover, and the plug for the carb where the oil line goes into the carb.

i just replaced my clutch the other day.....

haha, how about this, stator cover and stator on the left side of the motor, clutch, clutch cover, and oil pump are on the right side. Rather than jerry rig somethin on the inside just to save a couple bucks, put some time and money into your bike to have it done the correct way and have it reliably fixed and never worry about it again. The couple extra bucks is worth never having to worry about it.

actually, not bieng a smart ass or anything and i have a regular kit on my blaster, but i have one with the pump still on and honestly, the pump gear is plastic, and if it runs dry and locks up you will never even notice it. the plastic gear will strip, the pieves gett disinigrated in the tranny gears, and that will be the end of it, but i agree the kit is the proper way

hell to do it cheap/quick, just cut the lines and plugg the carb hole

Then you run the chance of seizing the pump and getting little bits of nylon/metal (I dont remember what the gear was made of(in the gear case.
What exactly is the point of useing a blockoff plate? you cant see the pump, it weighs next to nothing and leaving it there without the gear is simple.
Just trying to help.

my thaughts are, when you have it open, do it all... clutch plates/springs, atleast hd springs, mod the shift star, do the oil blockoff all at once its not that expencive for all that

I did mine this way. No need to spend money on a few screws..

The bad thing is I damaged my gasket so I got it all back together put gear oil in it, a day later half my oil leaked out...... I had to take high heat silicone ( gasket maker ) and let it sit for a day...

Well i took mine off while i was changing my clutch cover.
i just popped the whole unit off, and made my own block off plate.
i couldnt leave the shaft and gear in there because my polished pump cover wouldnt fit.

I just removed the pump and machined a plug and pressed it in where the seal went. Looks clean and will never leak. I might make a ton of them and sell em for like .25 just to piss off these guys selling a small metal plate for 20.00 LOL

Do you think I need to put any gasket sealer stuff on the new clutch cover gasket or no? What do them bolts need torqued to? Any locktite on the bolts?

i have never bought one of those kits because the diy is just as effective if its done right ,im not knocking anyone that has the kit because its nice and as mentioened has al lthe goodies ,personaly i just cant justify 30 bucks plus shipping on something yo u can do for free in an hour yourself .biggest thing is however you choose to do it just get it blocked as soon as possible ,the oem pump is a very dated archaic design and doesnt work very well like they do on sleds .it changes the ratio wildly often plugging up and failing at high rpms and seizing a good topend from lack of lubrication

I wouldn't pay much to do this. I just found a piece of thin aluminum and cut it out on a bandsaw. If you can remove every component its less weight. I know the weight may be minimal but it all adds up.
