:( ok so first off hi to all,ive lurked a little bit and now i could really use some help from the experts.
so my buddy bought his wife a 2005 blaster ,who rode it once in the desert, had a smoke and proceeded to tell her husband how much she hated it.lol...so it sat in his garage for almost three years..i offered him a sum and he sold it to me. i ride a ds650 4 stroke that has a lot of fun stuff on it,but this bike was a birthday gift for my 14 yr old daughter.needless to say she was extatic!! b4 i gave it to her i replaced all fluids, new air filter, pulled and cleaned carb, new gas(91)and new plug..started right up,no sweat.(note, also started fine b4 this). we went to the desert, rode about an hour, all good.went on second ride and about 30 min into ride bike locked up and shut down..super HOT. plug was like grey with almost melted together! towed it back to camp.replaced plug added a little oil to gas,and forced kick start till it was smooth again.no start! then towed it to get it to eventually run but very not right.,i could hold throttle in full and it would barely stay contant and eventually die out. i am mechanically able to work on things but this is my first two stroke, could really use some direction. is it just the top end//ie,new piston, hone and rings? i messed with this damn thing for 6 hours in the sand watching the sad look on my babys face,i need to get this bad boy back in a hurry..thanks to all,and sorry for the long ass post lolI:I

you most likely ran it lean. how the compression should be at about 120psi. if its not up around there take off the head and look into the cylinder then post some pics so we can help some more. but from what i can tell you need a rebuild and then rejet the carb a little richer.

this bike has litteraly 3 hours maybe on it. it was bought and ran in california. do you think the jetting of the carb could really be the issue? im learning here.
im gonna try to get the cylinder off this weekend and get to the piston. it was extremely hot and oil was dripping thru one of the overflow tubes in the front of the machine. my initial thought from ready some searches here is to block off the injector, run premix, new piston, rings and hone, but this is my first rodeo, and you are right i need to at least yank the head and look at piston..is the jetting really that crucial?

oh and never did check the comp..dont have a gauge. should i try to buy one then check b4 i tear down? do you just kick it over and check gauge? thanks

dont bother checking the compression now you don't have any, when you melted the plug you were seeing piston on it, the exhaust side is gone, is it from oil probably not but take a pic that way we'll know for sure.

buy the compression tester then put it in where the spark plug goes then kick til it stops moving

also anwer your earlier question.. jetting is key to the 2strokes it makes or literally breaks how it run a to rich bike will bog and to lean youl be in the same spot you are in now

ok ,so i finally got to the blaster and pulled cylinder and piston..fried!
id like to get some feed back that , if i simply buy and install the oil ninjector block off kit and send the cylinder to be bored along with new piston and rings, and gaskets all should be back on the road??:-/

Get that oil injection block off kit,its mandatory, also send your cylnder off for fresh bore and hone, new piston rings and gasket and you should be back riding

But when you do get it back running,do some plug chops and see how your jetting is

if your plug is dark black and wet its too rich, you will need a smaller main jet

if your plug is gray and dry it needs a bigger main jet

you need to see a carboard brown color and your jetting will be correct

I'd say that you need rebuild lol. If your cylinder has any deep scratches, your gonna need to bore it and hone it. With that over bore, go with Wiseco Top- End rebuild kit. Stay away from stock because its more expensive. I've seen Wiseco's rebuild kits as cheap as $50 on ebay for a blaster. Here's a link to one i just found======> Yamaha Blaster Forged Pro Lite Piston Wiseco 20 over:eBay Motors (item 280393425215 end time Dec-03-09 10:28:17 PST)

Now for your oil injector block off.... When i bought my bike, it already had it taken out. The guy went with a TM Designworks block off kit. There is a DIY on the forum if you wanna do it yourself. If you wanna get rid of weight (not much) than go for the kit. Here's a link for the block off kit i got =======> TM Designworks Oil Block Off Kit Yamaha Blaster YFS 200:eBay Motors (item 190337041566 end time Nov-21-09 14:33:06 PST)

thanks guys... i sent my cylinder to summit offroad for bore,,just one size bigger than stock and a new top end,ie. piston,rings,and gaskets{it is wiseco}
they do it all for 150. then i ordered the block off kit from ebaaay. so once i get that back i will follow up..thanks for the info guysI:I

That's what all of us are here for! Just be sure when you put the rings on the piston that they are aligned with the two arrows on the piston. one question. Is your bike all stock?
