hi jus read l8tly dat you have to hone a cylinder after replacing the rings is this correct do you have to do this????? an wud it be hard to do myself???

Yep. You can buy a hone at your local autoparts supplier. You should first make sure the bore is within spec, and if it is, then hone it. You need to break the glaze on the cylinder wall to give the new rings something to bite into. Do a search on honing cylinder there is probably lots of posts on how to do it.

Have a great day,

1. Clean out the cylinder best you can.
2. Have a spray bottle filled with white gas/coleman fuel/camping stove or lantern fuel
3. Spray generously to the inside
4. Begin to hone moving up and down continuously while spraying with fuel for lubrication.
5. Clean out the whole cylinder with hot soap and water. Make sure you can run your finger inside it and not pick up any residue when your done!

There is a desired angle in the cross hatch pattern of the honing lines. I believe it is about 30 degree angle to the horizontal, maybe someone can verify this. That is what you try and aim for. I used WD40 for lube while honing, seemed to work great. It is extremely important to clean it really well and get rid of the honing particles. I have heard of engines being ruined because they were not properly cleaned after honing.

Hmmm, as mentioned above I would lean towards using WD40 or similar as lube. Using gas or anything flammable just does not seem like a great idea...

thanks but i heard you have to use 3 diferent stones or sumtin but wud dat 1 stone work???
cheers
