Here is the scenario, I have a friend across the street who is selling a blaster rolling frame, everything except motor and carb. I have a cr250 that my brother was upgrading and then went to college and hasn't touched it for years. I know anything is possible with skill, but is it practical? Will the 250 be able to pull around the blaster without damaging anything? What do you guys think? Good idea or bad idea?

do it !!!!!!
it'll vibrate some, like all bike motors in a quad, apparently due to the lack of counter balancer, but it'll more than pull it around, it'll rip !!!!!!!

That's what I like to hear! Now the only problem is getting the bike done soon enough so my brother doesn't flip out at his bike sitting in pieces. lol Do you think it will need any fabrication? I will do a boatload of measurement of course but just for initial thought?

I just bought a blaster with a cr125 motor in it and it rips!!! I want to upgrade to a 250 though.

I'm not sure if the 125 and 250 are the same as far as mounting but mine doesn't look like it had the frame modified much if at all.

The hardest part will be getting and exhaust that won't hit.

I am currently struggling with designing a good intake set up. The previous owner had a filter attached directly to the carb and I didn't like it being that low.

Hope this helps!!! I hope you do it so I can see what is needed.

i have a yz250 in mine built by ken oconnor racing and it will rip your arms off if ya aint got a good grip. i modified my frame quite a bit to fit the pipe because i didnt want to change any shape of the pipe. if ya have a grinder with a cutoff wheel and a welder you can build it because thats was the only tools i had when i built mine. radiator is pretty easy to get mounted as well just make sure you use rubber mounts for all the radiator mounts, i found out the hard way and hard mounted the bottom mount and the vibrations cracked it pretty quick. i had a atc 250r motor sitting in the blasty frame before i sold it and i think its a right bend pipe so the pipe will be alot easier than the yz pipe.

I am so excited for this build! I set the motor in the blaster frame today and here is what I found out. With a little cutting of the swingarm I should be able to use the swingarm mount with the motor. The front mount on the frame, where the slanted bars are, they need to be cut out and replaced. Overall it looks like with a little time, cutting, and wielding I should be good. I just have to make sure the sprockets line up so the chain isn't angled.

I have a full FMF kit for the 250 so I will cut the frame to accommodate that. FMF power on that bad boy will be sick!

I was thinking of mounting the radiator to the front. I would take the front bumper off, mount the radiator, then build my own front bumper to protect it. Probably incase it with sheet metal so nothing gets stuck in it like weeds.

I will have to extend the kickstarter a little too. Just cut it in half then add some metal and it should be good.

Pictures up soon! :D

Thanks for the tip on rubber mounting it. That would be a sad day when my radiator cracks! :(

I have both a wielder and a cut off tool so I know its possible now. haha

Took the front fenders off right after the pics, had to use a cutoff wheel because the screws were so rusted!

UPDATE:
I just finished stripping the blaster of all its electrical components and put the cr's on. I took off the switch for lights and killswitch, then put the killswitch from the cr on. Placed the CDI and solenoid in the front to be permanently installed later.

The clutch handle and perch came off and the new one went on, it looks awesome! Pics of it soon.

I figured out the frame was spray painted and done very badly. That means that I will have to strip everything apart and repaint it (oh darn!) :D This will be done after I get the motor and other things to fit right.

More Pics soon!

Looks like a great start to a sick Blaster, I hope your brother doesn't kill you before (or after) you finish it though! :o I:I

sounds like your on your way to an arm ripper, better get to eating them wheaties and spinach !!!!!!
after you upload your pics to PB, hover your mouse over each image, a box will drop down then copy and paste the "IMG" code for forums into your post here, and your pics will magically appear on here

I'm thinking about doing a swap with my extra rolling frame. I have a yz490 sitting around doing nothing that i can swap in.

blasterdad: Thanks! I hope to have it finished before he comes home, or hide it if its not done! haha

awk08: I know, got to start working out! lol Thanks for the tip, I fixed it for the lazy peoples!

vspec: You should dust it off and give it a shot! We can help each other as we go along.

Blasterboy: Thanks!

caseywoods: rep received! haha thanks!

I promise to keep you guys updated! I sandblaster the gas tank plastic, front fenders, and hood and I am now in the process of paint. I would like to get the newer style hood though. Is that possible on a 97 blaster?

^^^ yes the newer hood is possible. go here http://www.factory7atv.com/PBbody.htm and scroll down until you find Project Blaster 03-04 hood mounting bracket... it is a bolt on bracket that comes up into place to bolt on the newer style hood, and if you put some effort into it you can use the newer style headlight in that hood or just put wire mesh behind it. you can also look around more on the Project Blaster store, they have tons of cool stuff for blasters
